FBD: reading POST#715 again.
OK, maybe I am being a little thick-headed here.
I don't have any legal expertise at all, so here's what I think I understand: any crimes committed by a President no longer in office would have to be first brought up on Federal charges, and then the House re-impeaching, and then the Senate would have to retry again? That's the only way?

"...here's what I think I understand: any crimes committed by a President no longer in office would have to be first brought up on Federal charges..." The Feds got first dibs on prosecuting Clinton, but all States in which Clinton committed crimes--which I expect is nearly ALL--can go after him as well.

No, actually, the Judiciary proceedings and the Legislative Branch proceedings are separate yet related tracks. IMO, the RE-Impeachment/Conviction is more to regain credibility for the Legislature than anything else, although the result of a conviction will be de-pensioning and removal of Secret Service protection. With the Millions of ill-gotten gains Slick Willie has picked up over the years, it is an INSULT to all law-abiding taxpayers to have to continue to pay fer this cretin's illicit lifestyle!!
