"For the international community now to say, 'Never mind. I'll walk away from this problem' or ignore it or allow it to be strung out indefinitely with no end, I think would be a - defeat for the international community and a serious defeat for the United Nations process," Powell said in a slam clearly directed at France and Germany. Hear that France and Germany .. even Powell thinks you're acting like a bunch of back stabbing WEASELS

The Germans and French support suicide bombers in Israel. Both countries have rising anti-semitism. Both have economic deals with Iraq, their ally.
Americans better realize the new enemy may include the Germans and the Vichi French. Remember the past! Neither of these countries is with great honor when peace is concerned.

I agree that Powell is playing good cop/bad cop and also is probably fairly irrigated at being made to look bad by our "allies", but I hear something else going on here and I HOPE I'm right.
I hear him telling his allies that what they're doing is hurting their collective goal of promoting and strengthening the UN over the sovereignty of countries--most of all the US.
I hope he's right that President Bush is perfectly willing to leave the UN behind to rot in irrelevence and impotence. In fact I hope that's exactly what happens. My second biggest fear in this is that the President would end up enhancing the power and prestige of the UN at our expense. (The first biggest fear is the obvious--WMD used against our troops and/or populace.)
