Why can't politicians do the right thing: CUT BACK SPENDING on projects that AREN'T necessary!

Why can't politicians do the right thing: CUT BACK SPENDING on projects that AREN'T necessary!Because those projects buy votes. Don't expect politicians to pass up opportunities to buy votes with your money.

Thanks and did you see this one its irrational and bizarre down in RALEIGH
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/828922/posts
(RALEIGH) In a call today to N.C. Representative Mike Decker of Forsyth County, North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Bill Cobey was informed that Rep. Decker has switched to the Democrat Party, changed his registration, and will be voting for Jim Black for Speaker. No reason was given. Given Mike Deckers conservative voting record in the General Assembly, I find this to be irrational and bizarre behavior, said Cobey. I wish he had discussed this situation before taking any kind of action, but today is the first I have heard anything of this truly perplexing decision.

I wonder how many fake republicans the democrat rats have planted in the republican party? That's a darn good question. Are you one of them?

For Republicans to be suggesting taxes should be raised eliminates the need for a Republican Party. If Republicans behave like Democrats, it would be better to vote for the real thing and spare us the disappointment.

I don't live in RALEIGH. You do!

You're too transparent to mess with.

Nobody on here knows whether you're one of the fake Republicans or not. And don't say you're "selective."
Your selection is limited to one thing, bashing Bush.

What is it with fake republicans? or should I say democrats pretending to be republicans or republicans that act like liberals? What is it with RALEIGH?

One can only scratch one's head with perplexity. I think we have the culmination of several things:
1. We had the "peace dividend? (anybody remember that?--I guess not, since the Dems were in office). This gave the economy such a great kick and wiped out the deficit. Never mind that Robert Boobin got credit.
2. The govs were able to cut taxes in the mid-90's which further stimulated growth.
3. Since the states had so much money, growth in spending (which is never cyclical, but always increases) grew at a phenomenal rate.
4. The chickens are roosting, and the remaining Pub governors want to stay in office, thereby not even contemplating cutting enough spending to matter.
As we've discussed before, many here shift their principles to accommodate their favorite politicians, rather than shifting their politicians to accommodate their principles. Isn't that a form of whoredom?
Betcha' that LAST paragraph won't be a candidate for FR "Quote of the Day!"

Well, princess, the implied answer to your rhetorical question is a great point. But, a concrete answer is that cutting programs that aren't "necessary" would decimate the government and place a tsunami of people who otherwise cannot get jobs on the unemployment rolls--at least for a while.
Of course, as we got to keep more of our tax dollars for spending on ourselves, we could hire these people to do useful work, like tending our yards and cleaning our homes. That assumes that they would WANT honorable and useful work. For some reason, I cannot picture, say, Carl Levin swabbing a toilet.

They, like the democrats fear the word "cut" as it might mean no re-election. So much for doing what is right for the state, self preservation comes, first, last and always.
