NOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED BUT THE WORLD MUST KNOW
TBS TV in Japan (major national television network) today has been able to interview a recent defector/refugee from North Korea who escaped into China after serving time in a terrifying North Korean concentration camp for 'political undesirables'.
There are a series of these concentration camps built Auschwitz-style in North Korea, complete with underground torture/execution chambers and furnaces, public executions, barbed wire/machine guns, anti-aircraft batteries, crowded barrack-type housing, starvation and cruel camp administration.
If you wish to see the shocking video here of the North Korean defector (using sketches) providing eyewitness accounts of executions commonly carried out in front of the camp population so as to prove a point (such as not to steal rations) you will need to
a) have Real Audio or Microsoft Windows Media installed;
b) hopefully have broadband as dialup may be slow;
and c) follow the instructions closely below as the text is in Japanese and you may get lost.
INSTRUCTIONS BELOW
TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; Culture/Society; Foreign Affairs; Front Page News; Government; Japan; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: concentrationcamps; defectors; hitler; japantv; kimjongil; northkorea; nukes

Don't be all that surprised - I think it's a (futile) attempt to repeat the "Why-attack-Iraq-if-Korea-is-so-bad" mantra.

President Bush has seen the KH11 and KH12 satellite photos of the camps (so did Clinton). He further has received intelligenc reports of eyewitnesses. As a result, he "loathes" that little dictator, Kim Jong il, and told Woodward just as much. Well, it is common knowledge in Asia (particularly Seoul and Tokyo).
In fairness to Bush, he was much more morally outraged than Clinton could ever be on this, but unfortunately he has his mouth full with one big Iraqi Burger right now. Once that is chomped down and digested, I am pretty sure the effort to liberate North Korea and free the camp inmates, will begin in earnest.

Too late. Evidently the link has been removed, or moved so far away I can't find it. I followed your instructions and got a film clip of the minister of Health talking about Mad Cow Disease. It's now Friday in Japan, and they must have updated their site.Not to Worry! They simply added a new news story to the top, and so the 'video boxes' each got pushed down a notch.
All you have to do is go to that page again, and this time, see the THIRD video from top. Sroll over the Japanese text and you will get a 'hand' logo and you will be able to hotlink and open.

You know a country sucks when its residents are escaping INTO China My husband and I always joke that you know it MAY be a good time to flee your homeland when you start seeing the larger than life murals of the leader going up around town...

Here is the url for the video. I think this can be done, i.e. cut and paste this URL (at least for the time being) into your streaming video browser, and the video should come up:

Gather up all the liberal "North Korea is terrible! They should be handled before Iraq!" comments, so that the bastards can be really held to the fire in the summer, after postwar Iraq is stabilized, and we reposition our massive arsenal to handle Evil Axis #2. They will all stream out in favor of keeping Kim Jong il in power and against American military power. We will throw everything they said about North Korea being evil, back into their faces, as we prepare for regime change there, too.
These idiots don't realize what kind of point in the argument they are ceding to us.

Ya, good point. They'll forget all about this when North Korea's turn finally comes. It's just a useful distraction from Iraq for now.

There was an interesting and sad article in the NY Times several months ago that kind of fell by the wayside. It was about imprisoned women in N. Korea who were impregnated by Chineese men.
The N. Korean authorites accused these women of "polutting" the N. Korean society by bringing Chineese blood into their society and forced them to have abortions in prison; they would inject them with a drug to induce early labor. If the baby was born alive they would force the mother to kill the child. In some cases older prisoners would do the dirty deed to spare the mother and suffocate the infant. In other cases when the pregnant woman needed surgery the doctor would kill the child after birth by piercing its' brain with surgical siccors.
Evidently a few prisoners got out of jail and escaped to both England and the US to tell their stories.
It was absolutely horribly and very graphic just by reading the story alone...and this was in the Times!

Bu, bu, but the peace-loving individuals at ANSWER/WWP said at their peace rally last weekend that North Korea is a lovely place whose government should not be undermined! Could this mean they are also wrong about supporting narco-terrorists in Columbia, commies and islamists in The Phillipines, and the overthrow of capitalism in America?

If you try the steps I mentioned, you will come to a TBS News page that now shows a pic of Prime Minister Koizumi giving a speech, with his arms outstretched.
Next to his picture on the right you will see a column of boxes each saying "Video". There is Japanese text next to each of these boxes on the right. Go down to the third Video Box, then go to the text next to that box. If you just hit "Video" there is no hyperlink. The hyperlink is by hitting the the text.

I'll repeat this from the fellow who did time in a North Korean jail at the
onset of The Korean War:
"The North Koreans were worse than the Japanese."
And there is not much "love lost" of the Koreans over Japan's occupation of Korea...
That's all you need to know about the sadism of the North Korean regime...
If you doubt this, watch one of the continuing series that ABC NightLine has run
on the North Koreans who cross over into China in order to find food so they can survive...
if they are caught by the North Korean troops trying to cross the border twice...
the punishment is death (by starvation/overwork in a death camp).....
Makes you wonder which side the United Nations is on...probably the North Korean regime,
ya' think?
