How large of a city is Modesto? I was thinking it was small, but if they have 40 police working on the case, it must be much larger than I thought.

I read on another forum that it's about 200,000. And last night, I think it was SP's mother who said there are about 300 police in the town. At one time there were 100 working on this case, down to 40 now.

It's certainly possible. There was a similar case in the area around SF about 10 or 12 years ago, IIRC. At least, that's what I picked up from reading all the information that's coming out now.

But as Mark Fuhrman said last night on Fox, "To be fair and balanced here, let's point out all the signs that lead away from SP..."(and a second or 2 later) "Okay, let's move on."

I really hope SP didn't do it. I'm hoping for that so much. There just doesn't seem to be much pointing in any other direction. His mother was complaining about that though, that she believes the police are ignoring other signs, and focusing only on her son now.

I think that's a very good observation.

If this case goes some time without being solved, or w/o the body being found, with no charges, but just the clouds of suspicion as there are now, I look for Scott to eventually come out and be talking about how "unfair" it all is. If, for whatever reason, Scott doesn't much regret the loss of his wife and child, or if he "gets over it," I think he will be wondering, "Okay, that's done. Now when can I get back to being me, to living the good life, to enjoying life?"

Not meaning to speak ill of Laci, really. But, for example: the way they supposedly fell in love .... It seems like one of those situations where the people sort of fit for practical and social reasons.

I am very familiar with San Diego, Morro Bay, SLO County, Modesto and similar towns in the San Joaquin Valley. Not to badmouth Modesto, which like most Valley towns has a certain charm, but to move anywhere in the Valley after having been raised in San Diego and lived/careered in SLO County is sort of like moving to Detroit from Hawaii.

While I think Scott is a stinker (that pic of him grinning at the candlight vigil is chilling), I also think that Laci is/was not perfect or smart here. Her worst transgression, IMO, was (apparently) to want to sell the successful restaurant in SLO and move to MODESTO(!!!) so she could be closer to mommy and daddy. The bible instructs "Cleave to your mate." I have zero patience with women (and believe me, I've known a few) who dictate their husbands' career moves via where her parents live. My idea is that Scott was sick of the Valley and resented having to live there.

One thing that causes me to think the LE'Os know more than they are letting on to is, nobody is asking people to be on the look out for a tiny infant .......someone that *shouldn't* have one, Maybe there is more to the forensic evidence that was found in that house.

Thanks! There's a connection of some sort btw these people who are "on" the Jonbenet case, but I don't know exactly how they all interact--who is mad at whom, etc.

I just found the "URLs" to be a good site to get daily updates on news stories about crime. So many national media people think they are "above" covering such things, so we have to find our information wherever we can!

Ah, that's a very good point! There's been no talk of looking for someone with a new baby who shouldn't have one. Guess the forensics will tell a lot when that comes back, won't it?
