Ice crashes through roof of California home

(Santa Cruz, California-AP) -- It might have seemed like the sky was falling.

A large chunk of ice fell through the roof of a house in Santa Cruz, California.

It didn't hit anyone, but it tore a hole about a foot and a-half wide in the roof. It fell just a few feet away from where a mother and her daughter were sitting.

No word on where the ice came from, but an F-A-A spokesman tells an area T-V station (K-I-O-N) that it could be what's called blue ice.

Blue ice is caused by leaks in airplane bathrooms.

Back in the early 80s I was living in Germany and Austria. Over there, rail service is a major transportation player. And on all of those trains, yes, when you flushed the toilet, it just opened up onto the tracks and dumped there. As a matter of fact, when you flushed, you could see right out onto the track, speeding below you. It was quite strange. In every train there were signs everywhere about not flushing the train toilets in the stations.
