MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Russia's military leadership has obtained information about the possible dates and scenarios for the U.S.-led strike against Iraq, a General Headquarters source told Interfax.

I know this doesn't sound like much, but NBC is suddenly leading its news updates with this information as of 10 minutes ago.

I just saw this too. Even if the Russians are guessing (and they may not be) it seems like a perfectly reasonable timetable.

The source said the United States and its allies had amassed about 100,000 soldiers and officers in the region but were awaiting for a strength of 150,000 before launching an attack.

"The military operation against Iraq will be conducted by a combination of means -- strikes will be from the air, land and sea. The war will be short, lasting about one month," the source said.

Russia Military See U.S. Iraq Attack in Feb -Report

Wed January 22, 2003 04:10 AM ET

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Russian armed forces have obtained information that the United States and its allies have already decided to launch military action in Iraq from mid-February, the news agency Interfax said Wednesday.

The agency's specialist military news wire AVN, quoting an unnamed high-ranking source in the Russian general staff, said U.S.-led operations would be launched once an attacking force had been assembled in the Gulf. The source did not indicate by what means the Russian military had obtained such information.

"According to the information we have, the operation is planned for the second half of February. The decision to launch it has been taken but not yet been made public," the source told the agency, which has generally authoritative contacts in the Russian military and political establishment.

The source said the United States and its allies had amassed about 100,000 soldiers and officers in the region but were awaiting for a strength of 150,000 before launching an attack.

First off, as for the late February target - has there been any question about this since, oh, September?

Attack from air, land, and sea? You don't say.

War will last a month? I doubt that.

Yes. If you'd been around here for more than a week, you might have seen some spirited debates.

War will last a month? I doubt that.

That's nice.

Looks, I mean sounds good to me!

It appears they already have, BTW. While certainly on a Russian server, that's a U.S. Army hat. Note the eagle with arrows and olive branches? I'm an Army brat, Dad wore a hat just like that.

Assuming we will attack at the dark of the moon, the first of February looks much more promising than the middle of the month when the moon will be full.

Yep. No one knows when it will happen, but I do agree that it will be over quick.

wonder if we'll see "white body parts", as human shields are hit-or will PC not allow this, and opportunities will be squandered?"
