You know what needs to be clarified?
Well... the method by which a human is classified as eligible for the 20 point bonus. I mean... who decides who is a 'minority' and who isn't? What do they do? Do they check their theeth? Spank their butts? Look at their DNA's? What EXACTLY do they do to determine eligibility? That would be a GREAT, SUPER thing to be decided by the court. Can you imagine? A regulation on how to check the applicant's teeth so that the minority status can be established.

Did you go to St. John's in Queens? The former Redmen?

I see exactly where you're going. And the funny thing is, when whites have been caught lying, and saying they were black, race hustlers have responded with outrage. Unfortunately, race hustlers are all irony deficient, or they would know that they seek the same sort of order the Nazis erected with their Nuremberg Laws.

Myth #1- The Bush administrations brief is a victory for those conservatives who advocate a color-blind society.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but a careful reading of the brief makes known that this is not the case. On the contrary, the arguments of the government reveal a classic, almost Clintonian approach, replete with triangulation and equivocation.

Negatory on that. St. John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota. The Benedictines.

You sir are confused and have fallen for the Liberal Media's Lies! The contents of the brief DO NOT MATTER! What matters is what GWB and Mr. Rove tell us it means!

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but a careful reading of the brief makes known that this is not the case." Reading briefs isn't my speciality. But, like you, I was somewhat disheartened by the seeming disconnect between Bush's rhetoric and his legal argument.
But here is another view, from somebody who knows about legal briefs...
Lethal blow

I have a good friend whose father is Hispanic, but whose mother is Anglo. Since he has a Spanish name, he is considered Hispanic.
He is married to an Anglo woman. Their kids (two boys, two girls) are 3/4 Anglo and 1/4 Hispanic. When the kids grow up, if they all marry Anglos, the children of the boys will be considered Hispanic under present law, whereas the children of the girls will not be, even through they all have the same 1/8 "hispanic" ancestry. (Whatever that means.)
Splain that one to me, Lucy.

I had a friend who just checked the black square. He did this after finding out it was illegal to check the validity of the answer and thus not illegal to lie. He thus got minority grants and other advantages. When someone asked he just said well you should see my sister showing a picture of a black girl if necessary.
Nice article but no solution to the problem was offered. I would rather go with Bush's solution than no solution. I like the top 10% idea. You know from the start what you need to do. You can transfer to a black school if you are slow and still get in.
I do agree with him on the point of genetics. I believe the problem blacks have is societial not genetics. I believe that any study of blacks raised by white parents or black middle-class parents in white neighborhoods would show similar performance. I also believe Asian performance is culture for the most part. Black India(ns) do very well in school because they are raised differently.

Yep - I'm black - it's just that my Polish genes override the melanin and I appear white. But I'm black and I want my damn extra entrance points...

Hence, no solution is necessary. Either you have the test scores, or you don't. And if you don't, shut up and apply to a less selective school.

I hear them sometimes say that athelets and honor grades also get 20 points.
The only argument is this: you must earn the atheltic status and you must earn the grades. Race is not something you earn. You can choose volunteer work, what sports you play in, how you study to earn your grades, but you can never choose the color of you skin.
Kinda reminds me of the movie "Soul Man".
