[history]
A gaudy little scandal has broken open at the Washington, D.C., teachers union -- just in time to illustrate the virtue of new Department of Labor rules to make union spending more accountable to its dues-paying members.
Late last December the FBI raided the homes of officials of the Washington Teachers Union, an affiliate of the politically powerful American Federation of Teachers. The agents seized luxury goods -- mink coats, alligator shoes and a Tiffany's silver service -- that investigators say were all bought with more than $2 million stolen from member dues.

Socialism HAS to use fraud and deceit to succeed. If they were ever honest about their beliefs and goals, the whole party and all it's union slaves (or is it the other way around?) would be bankrupt within the week.

My wife was formerly a school nurse and paid in excess of $600 in annual dues to the NEA/local teachers union. If the main purpose of this dues is collective bargaining for the local 2 year contract, the union could have hired OJ's dream team of lawyers to negotiate this contract for the dues it collected. Where the rest of the money went is anybody's guess--though this article explains a lot.
