As someone who works in computer electronics manufacturing let me say that we have to protect our bodies and equipment from giving off electrostatic discharges as low as 10 milli-volts. This article says the bomb will give discharges in kilovolts. WOW!!!

"These devices appear to be quite versatile and have lately found applications even in such obscure areas as analog electronics where they are employed as high current output, unity gain buffer amplifiers that have an astounding gain error of zero! This development has really stumped the design team: 'Why, it's as if it has infinite open loop gain! We don't know what to make of it'." The design team added, "The only hitch we found with this amplifier is the somewhat low input impedance, but we found that by switching to the 'off' position we've been able to eliminate that problem entirely."

Development was funded in part by a grant from Microsoft Corporation which optimistically announced, "We're pretty sure we closed most of the data security holes on this version and are ready to take to a Beta release". But when queried as to the actual internal workings of the device, they responded with a terse, "There will be no release of the source code for this device."This 'power switch' sounds almost too good to be true - - like a car that gets 500 miles to the gallon, tires that never wear down, a battery that lasts for decades, etc. I predict that this invention will not see the light of day until Microsoft can incorporate some kind of built-in obsolescence that requires periodic updating and/or replacement. I'm no betting man, but I would not be surprised to find that this 'power switch', as it is now designed, would work flawlessly for years, maybe decades. This is not good for sales.

"I predict that this invention will not see the light of day until Microsoft can incorporate some kind of built-in obsolescence that requires periodic updating and/or replacement." Yeah, I think we could probably come up with something like that. Let me talk to our department of Future Undeserved Sales of Electronics and see what ideas they can come up with.
