According to newspaper reports this weekend, former UN weapons inspector and Delmar resident Scott Ritter was arrested for a Class B misdemeanor.
The Daily Gazette and Daily News said the incident happened back in June 2001. All records in the case, including the nature of the arrest have since been sealed.
A veteran Albany County Assistant District Attorney was fired as a result of how the case was handled.
District Attorney Paul Clyne has an office policy to always be informed when cases of a sensitive nature arise.
He said he was shocked when he heard about the Ritter case, and fired Cynthia Preiser after 15 years of service.
Both Ritter and his attorney declined comment on the case.
Efforts to reach Cynthia Preiser have also been unsuccessful.Ritter has appeared as a commentator on national news networks, and right here on Capital News 9.
Ritter gained national attention as a former UN weapons inspector in Iraq for his outspoken opposition to the Bush administration policies in Iraq.
