Khankala, 19 January: Movladi Udugov, one of [Chechen separatist leader] Aslan Maskhadov's closest aides and an ideologist of Wahhabism, has once again confirmed that the Chechen extremists' leader [Udugov] was involved in the explosion at the complex of Chechen government buildings in Groznyy on 27 December last year.
ITAR-TASS learnt from the headquarters of the antiterrorist operation in Chechnya that in an interview for the Georgian media Udugov "promised to continue carrying out similar acts using suicide terrorists".
When two cars were blown up by suicide bombers outside Government House in Chechnya, more than 80 people were killed and about 200 wounded.

Do the Chechyns ever commit terror in St. Petersburg or is it mainly just Moscow? I leaving Tuesday for St. P. and I was just wondering if there is much to worry about.

Check out this site:
http://usembassy.state.gov/stpetersburg/
From that site:
Tourists and other visitors planning to come to St. Petersburg at the end of May 2003 during the celebration of the 300th Anniversary of the city should be aware that the Russian Government has invited numerous heads of state for official ceremonies and meetings, and that the Government has announced its intention to control hotel rooms and perhaps to limit the issuance of visas to anyone except official delegations. Also, many museums and palaces may be closed to the public because of official ceremonies, and traffic may be severely disrupted by motorcades. Private visitors to Russia should consider these factors when planning travel in or around St. Petersburg during May and early June 2003. For additional information about travel to Russia in general, please see the Department of State's Consular Information Sheet for Russia
http://travel.state.gov/ .
I searched on St. Petersburg and terrorism, but I can't find anything about it being targetted before. All I see is that Bush went there too. Crime may be more of a problem there.

Too bad Putin didn't take care of the Chechens way back when their rein of terror began. Much like the Israeli's always being counselled to show restraint, the world would be a better place without the likes of the Chechens and Arafat and his band of terrorists.

The interview in question is published in two places on Kavkaz, if you are interested. I was just reading it yesterday.
