It's a matter of priorities.
Have you ever been to Williamsport?
I have. Not in conjunction with anything related to Little League, however.
But as long as I was in the area, I naturally stopped by to see the field.
It is beautiful.
But in the overall scheme of things, it is just another stage for adult entertainment.
It fulfills the ambitions of the organizers and adults, not those of the kids who play.
Rather than seeing parents spend their resources to send their kids to that so-called "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity", I think it makes more sense to direct those resources locally, to improve their own playing fields and local programs. The kids have plenty of time to grow up and compete on a wider scale when they're older. But, IMHO, Little League (and prior to that: T-ball) is where they learn. That's where the resources should be focused.
