phone conversation with Kim Moran

Battalion Commander John Moran.
I was pleased to have a conversation yesterday with Kim Moran, widow of FReeper and Battalion Commander John Moran who died at 49 in the collapese of the World Trade Center. John was known here under the name BCM.
She wanted me to say hello to everyone and thank you for all the support and encouragement she has received. She still lurks here.
Kim now lives in the state of Washington with her two young boys. It has been difficult but they are persevering. Fortunately, she has been taken care of financially and has avoided that potential additional hardship.
Kim had contacted me about wanting to contribute to the effort to have a sculptor create the GUARDIANS OF THE LIGHT statue. Vetnet has made a great effort and lined up a world famous artist if the money could be raised. It is considerable and will really take the help of a major benefactor. We hope that someday a 12-foot version could be in front of a New York building. Proceeds would be directed to a fund for the families of those firemen who died on 9-11.

I am pleased to announce that David Schippers, among others, has a framed poster he proudly displays in his office.
For those who are new to FR or have been asleep, I was inspired to create THE BALLAD OF MIKE MORAN after hearing Mike Moran, John's brother, tell Osama bin Laden to "kiss my royal Irish ass" onstage at the Concert for New York. That was the highlight of the concert, well, along with the booing of Hillary, of course. Vetnet used his considerable talent to help polish the song and he handled the entire production. He made a monumental effort, and the song enjoyed considerable airplay. It was featured in several St. Patrick's Day parades last February, and is the favorite song of more than one Monsignor. A 10-second clip can be heard on the firemansong site.

I often think of Kim. We have kept in touch through freepmail every once in awhile since the Radio FR show you and I did with her as a guest. I am glad to hear this update and the GUARDIANS OF THE LIGHT sounds great!
She is always in my prayers. I wish this project all the best!

Note to self: Doug, it helps to get more than 4 hours of sleep. St. Patrick's Day is, of course, on March 17.

That was a great show. She related how one of her boys said "It is okay to say that word, mommy, because it is part of the body."

She was on my mind this last week, and in my prayers. I, too, live in Washington State -- but didn't know she had moved to this area. Kim, if you're lurking and see this, know that I pray that God blesses, helps, and comforts you and those two treasures you're raising.

Doug please tell Kim we have a great Freeper Chapter here in Puget Sound, and we'd be honored if she'd come to one of our get-togethers.

She's not very close to there, but I'll pass it on. When I go to visit my daughter on Whidbey Island, I hope to have the opportunity to meet some of you.

Thank you for letting us know how Mrs. Moran is doing.
Kim, if you're reading this, pick up "Embraced by the Light," by Bettie J. Eadie. You will find comfort and understanding within its pages.
Blessings!

I have a CD with Fireman's song on it--in fact, that is the only thing on it. It's great, and I play it once in a while, just as a reminder of what happened.
My prayers are for Kim and her two sons, also.
