House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh yesterday stripped state Rep. Frank Buck, who flirted late last year with the idea of challenging Naifeh for the speaker's post, of his chairmanship of the powerful House Judiciary Committee.
Naifeh, just elected to his seventh term earlier in the week, again raised the hackles of Republican members of the legislature by appointing only Democrats to lead the 13 House standing committees.

Next election, we'll see some change IMHO...a few more anti-income taxers and a few less income taxers. maybe they'll be split by party, maybe not.
but you Vols have stood up to the machine and now know you can do it again. voting day will be phun for you.
Your only option... move.
But look out where you go. Many states do have an income tax AND sales tax. You're good in that you've prevented the income tax to this point. I applaude you.
Efforts are underway to eliminate income taxes in several states, not to mention the big move to eliminate federal income tax in favor of a national sales tax.
The Tenn scenario is a partial example of what happens when pols have to raise sales tax cuz there's no income tax with which to tinker.
When ALL Tennessee residents feel the hit equally, ALL Tennessee residents oppose more taxes. The pols don't like that - is it any surprise?
Regardless - be praised for your efforts to prevent your state from implementing the income tax!
Though not given any leadership positions, the 11 Republicans who voted for Naifeh's re-election fared well in getting committee assignments they preferred. Eight were appointed to the Finance Committee, regarded as the most powerful of panels since it deals with all legislation involving taxes or state spending.
They were Reps. Michael Harrison of Treadway, Joe Kent of Memphis, Steve McDaniel of Parkers Crossroads, Bob McKee of Athens, Chris Newton of Cleveland, Doug Overbey, of Maryville, Bob Patton of Johnson City, Dennis Roach of Rutledge and Raymond Walker of Crossville.
Rep. Harry Tindell, D-Knoxville, was named secretary of the Finance Committee.
In contrast, only three Republicans who voted against Naifeh made the Finance Committee and two of them - Hargett and Republican Caucus Chairman Charles Sargent of Franklin - automatically get seats because of their GOP leadership positions. The third was Rep. Bobby Wood of Chattanooga, the Legislature's senior Republican.
Buck, who did not attend Friday's legislative session, was the only incumbent chairmen to lose his seat. But besides Fowlkes, there are five other new chairman who took seats vacated by retired incumbents.
:(
Keep up the fight.
