"George W. Bush, like the good politician he is, wants to compromise on most issues, including this one. And I don't like that."

Why do we feel compelled to change everything in one sweeping move?

I don't often compliment DemocRAT strategy, but I do admire their sheer patience...and commitment to alter society and law in incremental steps. And, if you look objectively at what they've been able to change over the past 30 years, you'd have to admit their strategy has worked.

It's MHO that we'd do well to incorporate a bit of this strategy into our own. We will win more friends, garner more support and achieve far more if we used "incremental change" when appropriate. ~ And, it's appropriate now.

Kudos to President Bush for his principles and political skills.

This is the first time since 1978 that this issue has so squarely been presented to the court. It's not a question of being sweeping, but doing what's right here. Ask Ward Connerly how much blood he has spilled fighting this issue for two decades. It reminds me of the signing of the campaign finance law, which violated every prior principled statement the president had made on the subject. He signed it at 2 in the morning, and left town. He doesn't do this kind of thing often, but when he does, I see no reason to pretend otherwise and spin it away. That's what the libs do.

I'll buy that. I know for sure that I would not be patient enough to be a good president.

IMHO, our most unwilling to compromise president was also our most disasterous -- Woodrow Wilson.

They certainly have a trench mentality, don't they (D's).

Lose the WH, fall back to Congress
Lose the House, fall back to the Senate
Lose the Senate, fall back to the SCOTUS
Lose the SCOTUS, fall back to the Circuits
etc.
