Also available on the Mozilla.org site is Phoenix (currently in beta). It uses the gekko engine (like mozilla) but is a smaller, faster browser. It also kills pop-ups, supports tabbed browsing, supports extensions to the UI, and lots of cool stuff. It loads FAST.

It was your comments on another thread that got me trying Mozilla. Dallas recommended it, but Dan you said you don't like it because it doesn't do everything.
What gives? I've never used anything but Explorer (beginning with version 2.0), but lately it is getting ungainly and awkward to control. Can you run down pros and cons for me?

The current release of Mozilla is pretty slow. I like some of it's features a lot, like tabs, but the speed thing annoys me.

I use Moz 1.0 and sometime have problems with sites that use JavaScript windows. I have to bring up IE5 for that. Otherwise, I like the pop-up kill ability in Moz.

Is Mozilla another evil capitalist enterprise like Microsoft? All hail Linux. It will free the workers.

While Mozilla is my browser of choice, it can be a hassle getting plug-ins to install and run properly. You probably want to keep IE or Netscape around until they work out some of the bugs on this.
Tabbed browsing and cookie controls make it worth the effort. (I use a separate program to control pop-ups in all of my browsers.)

Just so you know, Microsoft IE 6.0 is very similiar to Mozilla, however they both have their limitations. In speed tests, Microsoft IE 6.0 is faster on startup than Mozilla, while they both are similiar is speed tests as far as bringing up indentical websites, etc...all in all, what one can't do, or doesn't do very well, you can usually do better with the later.

Wait...now I've got a question and I'll bet someone here can answer it. I have IE6. Why is that that when I visit certain web pages (FreeRepublic is one) my text size changes? I like it at "smaller" but when I come to FR it switches to "Medium" and every now and then, on some sites, it'll switch to "Gigantic". Is this problem something in IE? Does anyone know how I can fix it?

Netscape 7 is the commercial Mozilla version and includes the pop up blocker and an e-mail client. Very Slick

Sounds like you've gotten the point. It's very cool, it's better than IE, etcetera. You're not missing a thing.

Dump all of them and get Opera 6.
They have a beta version of Opera 7 out but I am not happy with it yet.

It's an excellent browser with only one pitfall: as far as I'm aware, you still can't browse full-screen with a "auto-hide" toolbar which will appear and disappear when you move the mouse to and from the top of the screen.
If you don't care about full screen browsing and you're happy with Mozilla then keep it. There's no reason not to like it: it's a fine browser, though not all sites support it yet and you might have minor problems with complex sites that haven't coded for Mozilla. It also opens slower than IE because IE is loaded into memory when Windows starts but, that's irrelevant after the browser is open and it's not so bad as to be annoying.....it's just something I've noticed.
Those of us who appreciate full screen browsing with auto-hide have to stick with IE until Mozilla supports the function. That's the biggest downside right now.
As for "Stopping popups" IE did this without third party software. It's amazing how many people are ignorant of the fact but I discussed it here today.

Of course it's cool. It's the best browser around
Former Explorer user, never again

Well Mozilla won't let the pop-up ads show on my desktop. I have to surf the internet without the privilege of seeing all those lovely X-10 camera ads, or punch the monkey, or any of the others. In IE and Netscape I can see all the ads without even having to do anything -- they just "pop-up"!

It breaks down like this...
Netscape was redesigned from the ground up.
They now base "Netscape" on the "Gecko"(sp?) rendering engine.
Gecko is free and available to create other browsers.
Mozilla is a similar-but-not netscape browser that uses the Gecko rendering engine.
I use Galeon for 'tabbed browsing' and installed Mozilla on my moms MS machine for the same reason.
(and popup/java controll) They all do about the same thing I think it matters what religion you belong to.
Gecko is/was first with tabbed browsing, but MS/IE has mabey had some good ideas too??? (I-B-ignorant about M$)
Find a flavor you like and go for it!!!
Plugins-etc are a 'challenge' but typically work after following the directions.
I have to be honest, I like because of what it is NOT.
