CA: Attorney General begins grand jury probe of Oracle deal

SACRAMENTO (AP) - A grand jury will begin taking testimony Tuesday about the state's now-rescinded computer software contract with the Oracle Corp., and a key lawmaker is predicting the probe will result in criminal charges.

The contract, a six-year, $95 million deal with an option for a four-year extension, was supposed to save the state more than $100 million through volume purchases and maintenance of database software.

Good question. Lockyer is definitely in this latest one and only one, it would appear.

The report reported from Palo Alto,CA yesterday said Lockyer declined comment at this time about a Grand Jury proceeding. This article lays it on his office to run it, it would seem.

There are different types of grand juries, correct?

The headline mentions the AG, but the person doing all the talking is Florez. What's up with that? Lockyer is going to be running for governor in 4 years, so you'd think he'd be out to get all the face time he could. It looks to me like Florez is the real force behind the grand jury taking this up, and he's going to make sure it's good and visible to keep Lockyer from ignoring the case to death.
