Dunno...

When I wanted to join, I went to the marines first. They told me no. Not without a diploma. The army, same thing. So, I settled with the navy. They took me down and tested me. By the time I got home after the test, and we're talking 45 minutes, the other three branches called wanting me. I told them all to piss off...the Navy was the one who gave me the chance, I'm sticking with it.

Scoring a 98.6 on that test, the navy wanted me to go nuke. I said no way and went conventional fleet. MM2 by the time I got out.

This guy is probably trolling, but the determining factor will be their score.

Life is so much more complicated now. When I went in all that was required was body temperature.

"Can the kid get in with a GED? Yes but his carrear choices are limited."

I'm pretty sure your ASVAB score has more to do with your career track than your High School Diploma or Equivalency.

I had an extremely high ASVAB and The Recruiters and their Admin Brass teamed up on me as well as my Parents to get me into "higher" MOS' but I was dead set on becoming and infantry Marine.

Graduated from Parris Island [Where I took dives in the codebreaking...screwed up the math...and sound comprehension tests....I heard them little beeps in both ears.] and went to MCT at Geiger [Was interviewed for 8th & I with all the other handsome Marines over 6'1" and made it plain that I was not interested...got yelled at by the interviewing officer and was promptly dismissed as an arrogant little boot]. Then while in SOI was selected for Security Force School [Though I hadnt requested it.] and upon graduation assigned to FAST Company which at the time was [and probably still is] The Premium Marine Corps Anti-Terrorism slot...which requires a perfect (300) PFT score, expert Rifle & Pistol Quals as well as High Pro/Con marks down the sheet [Call your recruiter and verify them apples].

At no point along the way did my GED have any impact on what I did or did not do. Nor do I think it ever would've.

My performance did.

Now in the Liberal poag sectors of the Military your HS Diploma or Equivalency may matter but on the Male side of the Fleet...Actions do.

Just my small perspective.

The recruiter may not be able to accept a prospective candidate simply because he has a GED and not a high school diploma, regardless of his score on the ASVAB.

Recruiters are often giving specific guidance on who to recruit to and what to recruit for. (If the fleet needs more Combat Engineers, some sub-stations are instructed to recruit towards that field for example).

If the powers that be want kids with HS diplomas recruiters are told this and will not even bother with kids with GEDs. The GEDs will be told to come back in a few months or the names taken by the recruiter so when the standards shift down, the recruiter calls the kid.

All MOSs require a specific GT for entrance. Some MOSs specificaly require a HS diploma, regardless of the ASVAB score. Granted, any thing in the Corps can be waived, but if you are not in the know or the recruiter doesn't need you badly enough you are pushed aside for an easier target, like a kid who has a HS diploma and doesn't need the extra work of a waiver. Hence his carear opportunities are limited.

That's the way it works in the poag section or the male side of the fleet..

I don't know about the GED or High School Diploma but the USMC took my son even though he is color blind. He failed all the test they gave him. He's not black and white color blind. He sees different colors than the rest of us. Colors change with light and darkness. I had two like that.

But they took him in the Reserves anyway and he was called to active duty last Saturday. They will not even tell us where he is going.

Do not misunderstand me. I am very proud of my son who wanted to do something for his country but I would have thought that his color blindness would have been an issue.

"Bullet Sponge Marines"?

"Bullet Sponge Marines"

Would that be similar to a "wing walker" of perhaps a zoomie, or a member of a organization that's been around for... what 60 years, comeback when you've been around at least a century sonny boy, and don't bring your "stress card" it don't mean a thing to those in a real branch of the armed forces.

The only thing that the zoomies did right is designed a force where they send the "O's" out to do the fighting.

Praise God.

Did he at the very least provide a mailing address? Nothing encourages Marines [Anyone overseas] than to receive mail and even better supplies from home. His favorite candy, beef jerky, music CDs, etc etc.

It only takes a little time to do but man it really has an affect.

Everyone's prayers are with him [and your family]. Thanks for your family's [and his] service.

:o)

Find out exactly who it is first. More than likely this is a recruiter's aide trolling at a high school just trying to get bodies to sign on the dotted line so he gets the points towards promotion.

There was a guy on the radio last night claiming that with red-green colorblindess camoflage "stood out".

Might be a very handy skill...

This story is a crock. High School diploma or GED. The GED is a difficult thing even as recruiters are only allowed to have a very small percentage of recruits with one.

Right now he is still at the base. He was suppose to leave tomorrow but now they are saying it will be sometime next week. And yes he will receive a lot of mail, Mom's write everyday, (no wife) and sends all kind of goodies.

Thank you so much for your prayers. Especally for me. I seem to burst into tears a lot. Like now. All our boys and girls needs all the prayers and help we can give them.

Embellishment isn't a character trait that should be flaunted. Makes the rest of your pretentiousness suspect, at best. How on earth did the career planner ever let a specimen like you get away.

Well it did keep him from getting snake bit one time. His ball rolled into some high grass and their was a green snake that I couldn't see but to him it was red.

He also doesn't see red lights. He just knows that the red one is on top and green on bottom. They all look white to him.

Let's see. I think that brown was green to him. So maybe he would be able to see better. Of course pink was gray. LOL

You might like participating at the "Marine Moms" forum found HERE. My sister is a Marine's Mom also, and she finds a lot of comfort over there.
