You reduced him to a grinning skull, dull eyes staring forward, teeth clenched, and searching for an appropriate response-of which there were none. You could see the turmiol raging within .You have truly shown us what lies under the liberals outer face when their double standards cannot rescue them. All he could do was sputter and ask ,if, after all-hasn't enough time gone by? An argument he , and all democrats dismissed out of hand when a republican was in the crosshairs. Excellent.EXCELLENT!

Bravo to Trueblackman for a direct hit on the Dem. hypocrasy and double standards. I loved it when you said Hollings was going to get his due also. You will have the rats running off the sinking ship. You definitely have a supporter in SC here.

All that is well and true. Yet I recall these threads claiming the same thing about Trent Lott and rather vehemently. I am NO friend of the dems, to be sure, and I DO like to see them squirm. I understand that payback is a beotch. Yes, we expose the Dem hypocrisy but it just isn't going to ignite the same firestorm that Trent Lott did...you KNOW it won't because Byrd is one of their own. We MIGHT be able to deflect the "racist" accusations.
BUT: isn't it time for the past to be just that: the past? This country has evolved mightily in the last 50yrs in the way we view other people different from ourselves. Positions taken in 1860, 1948, 1973 or any other year are irrelevant, especially if those positions have been abandoned. It is knowing the facts but not judging events by today's standards. Racism in the early part of this century was ok. The place of women in society was vastly different. A lot of things were different. Thats just the way it was.
It seems to me that the left wants to constantly rewrite history to wring revenge out of the past, to denigrate, deconstruct and to destroy our history as a nation and a civilization. They are little interested in "TRVTH" and more interested in demonization. We always condemn it mightily in these threads.
One danger I see is fuelling the further destruction of our history["we must expunge all signs of the oppressors and their vile culture"], setting the entire country up for a massive apology["The president should apologize" Question: Does not the image of the President of the United States of America groveling strike anyone besides me as humiliating?] AND adding fuel to the so far smoldering reparations debate. I can hear the arguments now: You have demonstrated that ALL white people were racist so therefore you owe us big time.
Maybe this view of mine is totally off base especially when the opposition proves time and again that they will bite any proffered hand savagely and that we should learn to fight like they do. Sometimes I do advocate just such a policy. But it just seems like this reaching into an ever distant past is self defeating and probably does more to hurt than to help.
Flame away.
