I think all FReepers should write letters to the editor of their local papers stating the facts I layed out to get the word out.

The people are gonna hear Dash-Holes version of whats going on and belive him. "Hey, it was 51-49 before just like now. Its only fair to operate the same way". They will fall for it because they don't know the facts behind the reason it operated that way.

That really bothers me because what you have stated needs wide distribution. Rush is missing the boat not covering this.

Maybe you can get in on Open Line Friday if this obstruction is still going on!

The Mid-Term Elections in November 2002 should have sent you and your party a clear message that the American people wanted to see things get done in the 108th Congress.

Great letter.

Your sentence above is THE reason this obstructionism on the part of the 'rats will backfire bigtime. The American people do not like gridlock, in particular when it involves procedural wrangling. There is no way for even the lib media to cause the blame for this to accrue to the Republicans.

I just moved to NY, so I'm in the same boat as you, Marysecretary.....this after living in Colorado where, IMHO, I had the best representatives and Senators: Rep. Scott McInnis (on appropriations), Senators Campbell (ex rat) and Allard (on Armed Services Committee). And every time I wrote to my Senators, no matter the reason, I ALWAYS GOT A RESPONSE, never once did they not reply. Hitlery, OTOH, has yet to respond to ANY of my e-mails, plus, you have to use HER online form...you can't just send one to her from your own e-mail address.

Hitlery and Schuuuuumer disgust me.

But I stilled called them both this morning and let them know I wasn't happy with The Dems shenanigans, especially IN A TIME OF WAR.

I have to say that I am not surprised that President Bush's popularity is tanking at this time.

Hell, at least have an Oval Office Fireside Chat and talk to ME!

People are seeing him wobble on things and this is coming from people that voted for him here where I live.

That is what he will have to do with The Tax cut issue he will have to have Oval Office Fireside Chats and he will need to do it almost daily for weeks at a time!

Interesting story from last November!

Republicans say they will use the time between now and early January to come up with their priorities and the political risks they are willing to take to achieve them. The GOP agenda of the current Congress -- stymied for the most part by Senate Democrats -- may be the starting point.

From extending the 2001 tax cuts to drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, from setting up a new government program for funneling social spending through religious groups to imposing new restrictions on abortion, Republicans have a full plate of oldies as possibilities.

The initial agenda also could be influenced by what the Senate does on pending legislation to establish a Department of Homeland Security and provide terrorism insurance to business. If either of those bills fails to make it through this year, that measure would be first in line in January when Republicans control the Senate calendar.

"We'll hit the ground running with our agenda in January," said new House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.

But by no means is it clear that the White House, the more conservative House majority and the more moderate GOP Senate majority are on the same page.

Lott said the Senate in January will turn quickly to unfinished business -- confirmation of federal judges that Bush nominated and Democrats bottled up.

Republicans say they may also move swiftly to approve a ban on so-called partial-birth abortions, Lott said.

Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said the House's priority list will be topped by permanent extension of the $1.35 trillion tax cut bill Congress passed in 2001. Unless Congress permanently extends the cuts, many of the measures would expire in 2011. The measures up for extension include tax rates and elimination of inheritance taxes and the marriage penalty on two-earner couples.

The Republican-led House passed a series of extenders this year, but the Democratic-led Senate took no action, effectively killing the legislation.

"We'll start over in 2003, and this time we'll get it done," Hastert said.

They disgust me, too. Rural New Yorkers didn't vote her in, it was the cities (full of demorats, I guess). I do hope somebody good will run against both of them in the next election. We need some relief, fast! Where do you live? You can send me a private reply if you wish. M
