looks like the ancient drill press i was so fortunate to use in shop class while in highschool.

My dad has one of those in his shop in his backyard. A better mortar maker would be a old style metal laythe (sp).

It is. And its exactly what you need to make home-made mortars and other munitions. If they were using it for legitmate purposes, it would probably have been left alone.
