BUFFALO RALLY AIMS TO SUPPORT KOPP

WASHINGTON - Anti-abortion radicals plan to rally in Buffalo on Jan. 22 in support of admitted killer James C. Kopp - and to photograph people visiting the city's abortion clinic and post those pictures on the Internet.

Jonathan O'Toole, a reporter for the Christian Gallery News Web site, said Tuesday that he is organizing the rally, which will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

The rally, coming the month before Kopp's trial is expected to begin, will aim to sway potential jurors into thinking that Kopp's October 1998 shooting of Dr. Barnett Slepian was justifiable, O'Toole said.

"The real message to the people of Buffalo and really all of the potential jurors in Buffalo is that they have a chance that none of us have had for the past 30 years: the chance to vote yea or nay on legalized abortion," O'Toole said.

Among those attending will be Neal Horsley, who runs the Christian Gallery Web site, along with another that's collecting the names and addresses of every abortion provider in America in hopes of someday putting them on trial for murder.

"The anniversary of Roe v. Wade is a great time to seriously listen to someone like James Kopp, who was driven to desperation by legalized abortion," Horsley said.

While only about 25 people are expected to attend the rally, abortion rights supporters said they were alarmed that it was taking place. "This is going to be a magnet for the disciples of the high priests of anti-abortion violence," said Glenn E. Murray, a pro-choice attorney.

Horsley is expected to be the best-known abortion opponent at the trial. Abortion rights advocates view his "Nuremberg Files" Web site - which includes a list of "aborted and nearly aborted abortionists" - as one of the most inflammatory on the Internet.

"Abortioncams.com," another Horsley site, shows photographs of women entering and leaving abortion clinics nationwide, calling them "True Images of The People Who Go Where Tiny Babies Are Appointed To Destruction."

Horsley said his associates would be photographing people visiting Buffalo's Womenservices clinic and posting the pictures on the Web as a "deterrent to evildoers."

Told about those plans, Marilynn Buckham, the clinic's executive director, said: "I think it's the height of trying to intimidate and terrorize women."

The exact time and place of the rally won't be announced until shortly before it occurs.

Others expected at the rally include Stephen Wetzel of Missionaries to the Unborn, and Chuck Spingola, an Ohio street preacher.

Wetzel's Web site once published both a picture of a woman who had an abortion along with her medical records. And Spingola was convicted of criminal damaging after climbing an Ohio statehouse flagpole in 1999 to tear down a gay pride flag.

Kopp's attorney, Bruce A. Barket, will attend the rally, although a gag order in the case will bar Barket from speaking freely, O'Toole said.

Abortion rights advocates believe Bray, Horsley and others set to come to Buffalo are linked with the Army of God, a shadowy, leaderless group whose Web site defends the killing of abortion doctors. O'Toole was profiled in a 2001 HBO documentary called "Soldiers in the Army of God."

James Kopp, who was driven to desperation by legalized abortion

Aaaarrrgghhh!

This is a touchy-feely liberal justification.

Just because Barnett Slepian deserved to be brought up on capital charges for his crimes against humanity does not mean that Kopp had the right to act as judge, jury and executioner.

Yuck! Anyone associating with that nutbag Horseley is a mental case themselves.

He lists George W. Bush along with the abortionists as deserving of condemnation.

This stuff drives me nuts too.

I haven't yet located the quote where Jesus tells me it's OK to commit murder as long as I think the victim is a bad guy. I guess it must be there, cause these folks claim to be Christians.

Give it up, guys. Kopp is a confessed murderer. There is no justification for his act. Stop acting like liberals.

Um, no. It's to decide whether James Kopp murdered Bernard Slepian--and Kopp's already confessed to the crime.

I hate it when the fringe gets this attention, like ILGO at St. Pats Parade in NYC. A few idiots take away importants news coverage.

Agreed. There is no excuse for murder, be it the abortionist or someone who murders him. This hurts the Pro-Life movement more than anything I can imagine.

These are sick, nasty, evil people.

Someday both Kopp and Slepian are going to meet in Hell and realize murder is wrong.
