LOS ANGELES (AP) - The California Coastal Commission says it will appeal to the state Supreme Court a decision that its structure is unconstitutional.

An appeal would stave off efforts to weaken the commission, at least until Gov. Gray Davis calls a special legislative session to reorganize the agency, Nava said Tuesday. Without it, the appeals court decision becomes binding at month's end.

Republicans have a chance to throw a real monkey wrench into the Demorat plans to expand the Coastal Commission's power.

Watch this one closely. It will tell us what the California Republican party is made of. If they cave, Republicans are finished in this state. A special session to pass an emergency measure requires some Republican votes.

Wonder who pays the attorney fees for the commission?

That could give a free pass to those seeking to build on the state's last open coastal dunes, wetlands and seaside cliffs.

Hi there. This is your brain speaking; specifically, the part that watches for propaganda trying to slip into the memory banks. It looks to me like whoever wrote this article thinks that all property belongs to the state, and he's trying to slip that one by here as an assumed fact.

Humboldt County has over 100 miles of coast line, most of it off limits to development . Local Supervisor Norm Wholly is our commision member. The local news was interviewing him this evening and I quite listening when he said he voted for it in 72.

I attended a Malibu community meeting, and one of the most memorable speakers dubbed himself "a recovering Coastal Commission supporter". Supported it in '72, doesn't now.

Believe it or not, some people can learn from experience.

Incidentally, the people at the meeting opposing the Coastal Commission were mostly middle class - ordinary folks who happened to have paid $68,000 for their Malibu homes in 1972. Granted, these homes are now worth an average of $1,500,000 and up, but these people are nice, ordinary folks who happened to have gotten lucky.

The real rich feel they can bribe the Coastal Commission to do whatever they want.
