I couldn't agree more. Pickering wasn't a racist before Trent Lott's blunder, and he's not one now. Some of the chattering class was predicting President Bush wouldn't dare re-nominate Pickering, giving the black caucus and NAACP another chance to play the race card against republicans. Hot damn! Once again President Bush stands on principle. Right. It was never about the NAACP or the black caucus or the democrats. Bush's rebuke of Lott was exactly what I expected of this man of integrity. He did it because it was the right thing to do, just as he renominated Pickering because it was the right thing to do.
I love this president. :-)
