"That surprises me a little, but I like it."

My thoughts also. I thought the Lott fiasco had doomed this nomination.

The fact is, this is a club that will keep the race-baiters at bay.

Because we know about Senator KKK.

One does not play poker with George Bush Jr. unless they want to lose their shirt.

You beat me to it. That's exactly what they should do. No hearings for nominees that have already had them. No need for the Democraps to play their character assasination games twice. Who's the judiciary committee chairman? He and Bill Frist need to do the right thing on this and spare these people another lynching.

"There are no more actual filabusters, per se, you just announce that you're gonna have one, then you force the cloture vote..."

Not absolutely sure, but I think judicial nominees are one of those few things where the filibuster rules do not apply. IOW if all the Pubbies stick together and he passes the Judiciary Committee that we control he is guaranteed a vote on the floor and the RATS can't stop it.

We will have two good years as President Bush focuses on realities not mantras and what he should do words of advice from the losers in political life.

As he dismantles and shreds a previous Rat victory each week, we will be treated to the same tire old elitist Rats hollering their same tired old mantras from the 60's/70's.

They will be like the little boy who hollered wolf. No one will be listening to them by 2004 except their own losers.

Then in 2004, we can elect enough senators to get the magical number up to 60 and increase the house. Then in 2005, President Bush can bring about the end of 5 decades of socialism, communism and enviralism to begin with.

OMG...Bush continues to surprise me.

Oh..If he can come out against Affirmative Action by Jan 16. Today's decision could be a clue that he may.

BUSH RULES!!!!

Perhaps the President actually did what he said...let Lott stand or fall on his merits (none) and let the Senate Republicans pick whom they liked.

Or perhaps the President actually was offended by Lott's comments and thought they were beyond the pale.

Both of these situations do not fall into the "caving" category but rather a difference in either strategy or opinion.

Yes, this is more than just a nomination. This is a complete refutation of the "Lott Factor" the rats were hoping for (and some of us were fearing). This is NOT your father's President Bush!

Bush Renominates Pickering as Federal Judge

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - With fellow Republicans now controlling the U.S. Senate, President Bush (news - web sites) on Tuesday renominated Charles Pickering and 30 other judicial nominees who failed to win confirmation in the previous Democratic-led chamber.

Pickering, a friend of former Senate Republican Leader Trent Lott, a fellow Mississippian, was voted down by the Senate Judiciary Committee (news - web sites) because of concerns about his civil rights record.

Following the fall of Lott last month for racially charged remarks, Pickering's prospects of being renominated by Bush appeared dim.

Yet the White House said Bush decided to renominate him to a federal appeals court, believing he should be considered by the full Senate.

Bush will also renominate Priscilla Owen of Texas, the only other judicial nominee actually rejected by the previous Senate Judiciary Committee.

Twenty-nine others, including Miguel Estrada, who Bush wants to make the first Hispanic on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (news - web sites) for the District of Columbia, did not get a committee vote.

A White House spokeswoman said the president believes all 31 should be considered by the full Senate. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030107/pl_nm/congress_pickering_dc_1

It is nice to see a President with cojones and integrity

My thoughts exactly.

A chance for Lott to support his fellow Mississippian and redeem himself from his spineless comments about Pickering on B.E.T.

I saw that about Pricilla! The RATS all thought this President would be scared now...wrong again. Also brought back Estrada.

I thought the Lott fiasco had doomed this nomination.

Several folks here reported that Pickering didn't want to go through the process again. I guess he changed his mind, or those reports were wrong.
