Slavery certainly would not have lasted past 1900 (I don't see how anyone could argue otherwise). Yeah, no biggie. What the hell, it would have just a few more generations being enslaved. What's the big deal? < /sarcasm>

Slavery would have gone by 1946, when the mechanical cotton picker was invented. That was when the plantation owners encouraged folks to leave for the north rather than stay.

I guess it depends on what value you place 600,000 American lives and the damage done to the American experiment. If we could have avoided Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Bull Conner, affirmative action gone awry, black culture meltdown, etc., maybe the payoff would have been worth the cost. But perhaps I just can't see things as clearly as my betters, such as you. back at ya.

I just cannot see how anyone could justify enslaving people period, much less for several more generations. Then again, I do not nor have I ever thought whites are some how superior to other races. I think the slaveowners were just the most pathetic, lazy losers.
