President Bush headed to Ft. Hood, Texas today to rally and to thank the many troops who serve from their home base. Bush used the opportunity to tout the military spending bill, as well as to once again assure all that we will win the war on terror. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

What a great game. I was cheering for Miami, but was glad for Ohio U- only because it was a great game at the end.

That penalty against Miami that cost them the title was a very bad call. And that call is the reason Miami lost- they went from champs to chumps in a matter of minutes.

Great photos, rintense! Thanks! It was a moving speech today, seeing him get so choked up. We're so lucky to have him as our leader.

Congratulations from one Big Ten fan to another! I was thinking about you as I watched every nail-biting minute of the overtime. Great job, Bucks!

BTW, ohio, your letter to Time mag concerning their choice of man of the year, which you shared a few days back, was spot on. I loved every word, and I'm so proud of you for letting them have it, in your usual polite, professional manner. Let me know if they print it, because that would be the only reason I'd ever buy that magazine.

Kudos on both counts, ohio. Hope you're doing okay, too; haven't said so, but have been thinking 'bout you during the holidays.

The penalty call would have been unimportant if the Miami quarterback could have thrown that last pass. What a weird ending.

Nah......they lost a fair fight from a tough team. (Miami held about 300 times and didn't get called for it....it always goes both ways). The Miami QB was pulled off his game by a great OSU defense.

Coach Tressell has won 3 National Championships at Youngstown State (Division I AA). He's a winner, and a GREAT guy! Ohio State is a feisty and VERY underrated team. They EARNED this Championship fair and square.

Rintense, I thought the most thoughtful thing GWB said today was this:

"As Commander-in-Chief, I have come to know the men and women who wear America's uniform. I have seen your love of country and your devotion to a cause larger than yourself. I have seen your discipline, your idealism, and your sense of honor. I know that every order I give can bring a cost. I also know without a doubt that every order I give will be carried out with skill and unselfish courage."

I think Dorsey was hurt and tried to play through it. Great guts and sign of a true leader.

Thanks, marylina. I'll let you know about the letter to the editor, but I can tell you now that they won't print it.

Those dupes at TIME are so biased that they don't even know how incredibly STUPID they are. Whistle blowers as persons of the year after our PRESIDENT has led the whole world??? Unbelieveable!!!

btw, all the 'experts' said the Big 10 was a lousy division, and OSU's record meant nothing. I wonder if anyone will notice that we have a 5-2 record in the bowl games?

Probably not.

I just love pixes of our Commander-in-Chief with his troops -- the pix with the baby was a bonus!

Three quick items before I go back to bed (actually, I just got up for a cough drop and couldn't resist checking the Dose one last time):

1.) I mentioned this last week, but thought I'd mention it again: The current "U.S. News & World Reports" mag has a great interview with the President. You can read most of the interview at the following URL: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/issue/021230/usnews/30bush.htm

2.) A new book on the President will be released on January 7: "The Right Man: The Surprise Presidency of George W. Bush" by David Frum. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0375509038/qid=1041660422/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/103-6149365-9031055

What do you think? Is this a book that we should all purchase and read?!

3.) I just love the following description of the President's hike with reporters yesterday (refreshingly free of liberal cynicism/spin and from China no less!):

U.S. President Bush most at home on his Texan ranch

2003/1/4
CRAWFORD, Texas, Agencies

The president of the United States was utterly unconcerned about his own safety as he edged toward the precipice of a rocky 90-foot cliff.

As George W. Bush coaxed his guests to join him for a better look at the creek below, he told them not to worry. A strong wind, he said reassuringly, was gusting up from below.

With unrelenting good cheer, Bush led a small group of White House reporters on a brisk four-mile hike around his wind-swept property Thursday morning.

Along the way, he demonstrated not only a certain fearlessness but also considerable knowledge of the fauna and flora on his beloved 1,600-acre Prairie Chapel Ranch, six miles outside this central Texas town.

Despite the morning chill, Bush set a pace that in no time had most of the reporters panting. The equipment-laden photographers were quickly drenched in sweat. "A warmer-upper," Bush playfully described the hike.

The day proved mutually beneficial: The reporters got an extremely rare up-close and extended look at Bush, in a setting that he loves like no other; Bush reaped handsome dividends as well, garnering a rash of favorable images.

In a blue jacket, baseball cap, denim jeans and gloves, the president looked quite the part of a Texas rancher in touch with the environment.

At one point, he spoke about maintaining "the proper buck-to-doe ratio." At another, he claimed: "I've become a guy who really likes trees." As if to prove it, Bush spelled and then defined "mott" ¡X "where a group of trees grow quite tight together."

After the tour, he invited his guests ¡X without their muddy footwear ¡X into the ranch house for coffee and some quality small talk.

During the 90-minute hike, a few reporters playfully posed leading questions, offering the president several opportunities to get serious. But he parried every such thrust.

Among the outing's more lasting impressions was the president's love of his land. As the group ranged across the vast terrain ¡X up and down hills, over and around rocks ¡X Bush's enthusiasm seemed only to grow. Time and again, he pointed out changes in the topography, noting all manner of trees, including some magnificent live oaks and the water-sapping cedars that he often attacks with vigor. He rued that the pecan trees had a poor season.

Bush seemed especially taken with the springs that bubbled out of rocks and trickled into ravines.

At one point, he led reporters into what he calls "the cathedral," a starkly beautiful canyon that nature has carved out of chalky soft limestone. There, a waterfall cascaded from a huge shelf of overhanging stone into a clear pool.

Bush lingered for a few minutes to marvel at the site, which had been bone dry at the time of his first press tour, in August 2001.

At various times, Bush veered off the crude, rocky roads to point out especially scenic tableaux. He ducked under trees to show off a pristine brook that dropped from flat rock to flat rock.

When a reporter pointed out a hawk overhead, Bush quickly corrected him: It was a turkey buzzard.

Even at the ranch, Bush does not sleep in. He works from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. before going outside to "cut cedar or fool around, you know, repair something." After lunch, he will work until about 4 p.m. and then go fishing.

I absolutely, unequivocally agree with every word of your beautifully written (and inspired) analysis of the president's speech today. I was especially touched by your concluding comments:

”This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.”

If I could thank George W. Bush for anything, I would thank him for asking an angel to direct this storm.

God Bless You! George W. Bush
