Theonly president I have ever seen in person was also at Ft Hood, in 1979 Jimmy Carter visited. It was an opportunity and we took it. (Don't ban me for this - it takes guts to admit it)

Our neighbor was a CID agent who was assisting the secret service with security. I had a laugh at security, the CID guys were all in shorts and shirts with handguns obvious. When Carter left the temperature was above 100 and the humidity was the same - the secret service all had their jackets off exposing various weapons in different carrying configurations.
