we have a similar law concerning attempted carjacking (if you're in the car) here in utah.

a couple observations...

don't fumble around on the floor looking for a piece - it goes on your hip.

keep the doors locked on your car. you spent a lot on it, and don't want to clean blood and glass out of it.

stay aware of your surroundings.

shoot fast. shoot straight. shoot safe. practice. carry. molon labe.

Maybe the dead perp in this thread should be nominated for "I wished I'd never said that." in that other thread. As in, "I wish I'd never said 'I'll kill you'".

Good observations, and I'll make use of them. I also got some 'extra ammo' on the National Buycott Day, BTW, from the owner of the local gun shop - not bullets, but valuable information that I can use to protect myself and my loved ones.

The owner of the gunshop is a former police officer and now trains LEO's in chemical weapons use. He taught me about practicing my draw from my carry position (which for me is an outside zipper pocket of my purse); to practice this over and over again, each move of it, in slow motion. The point, he said, was not to be a quick-draw from the start, but to take time at home under controlled conditions and sloooowly experience each step of the draw, so that the 'memory' of my draw from concealment would be sure.

He also taught me to not only have keys in hand when leaving a building (at night especially, but I do this all the time now) but also to have my zipper pocket undone and my primary hand already gripped on my carry piece.

I couldn't thank him enough for all the time he took with me that day. He was a real pro, and an interested, exciting and most experienced teacher.
