CNN to launch new channel

Posted on Saturday, 28th December 2002 at 8:38 pm EST (01:38 BST) by James Welsh

JCTV and CNN are to launch a new CNN-branded channel, CNNj, taking the number of regional feeds of the news network to seven.

The channel will combine programmes from CNN/US and CNN International - CNNI has a production centre in the Asia Pacific region located in Hong Kong - and some financial programming from CNN/fn.

Chris Cramer, President of CNN International Networks, said in a release: "Thanks to the strong support of our long-time partner, JCTV we have been able to take this important initiative in Japan, the largest market for CNN in Asia. By making this strategic investment to create a unique CNN channel we are proving our commitment to cater to the specific viewing preferences of Japanese audiences."

According to JCTV's webpage for the new channel, located here, featured programming from CNN/US will include American Morning and Connie Chung Tonight.

Connie Chung's too old to be an AV girl, it'll never last in Japan.

"we are proving our commitment to cater to the specific viewing preferences..."

What distinguishes catering from pandering?
