Prayers for Don Duong.

Does anyone doubt the EVIL of communism?

Poor Don Duong is suffering at the hands of the Evil Masters at the same time Hillary Rodham plans to destroy America.

Evil Lives.

MEDVED: "WE WERE SOLDIERS" deserves Best Picture Oscar Nomination

Agreed, but don't hold your breath waiting for the pinkos in Hollywood to give any recognition to a Vietnam movie that didn't accuse the Americans of being war criminals.

My personal pick for Best Picture would be Signs.

I agree--but I am highly doubtful.

When Saving Private Ryan was up for best picture, it lost to the sappy "Shakespeare in Love."

Only after the Oscars that year did we get the truth: over half of the voting Academy admitted they refused to even watch Saving Private Ryan before voting.

Medved is a very good critic, and a fine writer. I hope he can shame Hollywood by his article (if they are capable of feeling shame).

So far We Were Soldiers is the best picture we have seen this year. Signs was a bit thin, IMO.

Haven't seen TTT yet. The trailers make it seem like three hours of dark and violent battles, which is what I didn't like about LOTR.

Ping!

Thought, and hope, this movie receives some sort of recognition, but am doubtful.

Hollyweird doesn't seem to have a clue as to what goes beyond its borders.

I love Mel and most of his movies. I even somewhat liked Signs ... but it was so full of holes, most noteably leaving the alien in the pantry. Jeez, wouldn't you call the cops?

Yep, or something. That alien eventually came back to "haunt" him too!

Amen to that. I just returned (or more accurately escaped) from So. Cal for Christmas. Thankfully, there are a *few* Hollywood actors/business people who have a clue as to what's what (Mel included)...unfortunately they are tactlessly drowned out by the screeching of the more vocal and shameless far left socialists.

It will be interesting to see what comes of the nominations this year. I hope it's not another subjective popularity contest, but I'm afraid, inlihgt of recent years, it's become a huge joke. WWS rightfully deserves recognition, and if not, nominated as Best Picture (with SIGNS a close second, lol).

We Were Soldiers wasn't bad (it wasn't great, either), but Signs was extremely disappointing-- no, make that terrible. A good cast wasted on a childish, illlogical story. The Two Towers, flawed as it was, was far superior to both.

Aw, Rocko, give it another try when it comes out on DVD/Video in January. Sounds like you missed the underlying story behind all the boogeyman stuff?

Admittedly, the alien stuff was a bit weak (except I loved the tinfoil hats!), but the other parallel in the story was pretty well done. Might not change your opinion completely, but perhaps make it a bit more entertaining the next time.

No, I didn't miss the underlying story. I just thought the plot insulted my intelligence.
