I just want to say that when the end credits of "We Were Soldiers" roll, after the scene of Barry Pepper at his typewriter, tears streaming from his face, when the choir sings "The Mansions of the Lord", that my 12 year old son was sniffling, as I (his 46 year old dad) was . That was a great movie, and a great book; and I bought and read it based primarily on your posts here at FR.

That had to have been a hellish place, and I for one want to thank you and the others who did serve under such adverse conditions, and kept your faith in America in spite of the lack of support at home.

I am not 'pro-war', and I know that soldiers resent the protester and the 'never-been-there' hawk alike; I just want to say that I know it required courage and strength, and not many truly know the hell of combat, and the fear of imminent death. One can only hope that there are men such as yourself, Hal Moore, and Sergeant Plumley to lead our current soldiers, and to keep them alive in the heat of war.

...ALOHA Hemmingway's Ghost...

...Thank you for your sharing.

...Guess what, .."WE WERE SOLDIERS".. does show things as they really were for US on the Battlefield and for our Loved Ones who waited for US to come home or not.

...What other people now bring with them when they witness this on the Screen decades later has no reflection on how it really was for US long, long ago.

...To the contrary, with the War now having Come Home in a new Century with an Enemy that is now within our Homeland, perhaps a little openess in those now at just as great a risk at Home would assist them in acheiving our much needed VICTORY...?

I can't wait until KPLS 830 AM goes into Live Streaming on the internet.

Darn San Francisco station overtakes the signal for me after sunset!

But, I did enjoy listening to Michael Savage from 4 pm till dusk tonight! I sure wish Bob Dornan was still there!

Even the liberal media reported on Sudan's and Saudi Arabia's involvement in that scenario... Clinton HIMSELF admitted he was offered Osama - and declined for reasons that are rational ONLY to a "legacy inventor"...

OK, AGAIN, Source?

Come now. I'm talking about the film, not the historical events depicted in the film---events to which you seem to have a strong tie. As a film, "We Were Soldiers" was a sappy melodrama, as war films go, almost as embarrassingly overwrought and heavy-handed as Back to Bataan.

I was dying to see this film. In fact, it was the only film I saw on "the big screen" in aught 2. Believe me, I was really disappointed when it turned out to be such a turkey.

I listened to the first beginning segment of it. I heard you call in. My opinion about the Global Awards is that not only are they phony but also very political. It seems to me that they just did not want "We Were Soldiers" to get any top billing. This excuse about the movie just coming out before May is complete bs to me. I just don't buy it at all. As I remember, "BlackHawk Down" came around the same time that "We Were Soldiers" came and BlackHawk got better reviews than this one. Not only that but Blackhawk had more promotional advertisement than "We Were Soldiers" did. So when that fellow (forgot his name) was on the radio last night with Jane Chastain sizing up the ratings of all the movies, I found him to be completely full of it too! Completely full of it. "We Were Soldiers" didn't even so much as get an award and I believe it has something to do with the fact the the movie portrays our soldiers as true combatants of evil forces and the matter by which they were treated coming back to America was an insult very much like how our Vietnam vets were treated. Because of this true exposure of how our military was even treated by our own people, Hollyood refuses to acknowledge this! So I say screw Hollywood and their agendas to overthrow this Country! There will always be those like myself who believe that evil exists and that we must constantly combat against it. My loyalty first rest in God. And this Country was formed under God's principles and those who don't like it should just leave!!! Especially those CEO's of the Hollywood types who control the filming and television networks! May they rot in hell for their twisted efforts to deceive Americans and undermine our military!

Great reminder...I've got to buy a couple of copies.
My dad is now reading the book.

Oh, I will give a notice about a book I stumbled across after finding a website for the 25th
Infantry "Tropic Lightning" unit that my dad "stood watch" with in Hawaii during the
Cold War:

Platoon: Bravo Company
by Robert Hemphill

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0312976577/qid=1041461753/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/104-8383200-6292730

I haven't read it...but seeing it has a forward by one Joseph L. Galloway
and lots of good reader recommendations has pushed me to invest times in typing this notice.

Oh, and I've listened to today's (New Years Day) pre-recorded show by Medved on
the history of the Jewish people/religion...he sure knows how to make history
interesting and cuts to the chase...

...Thank for your sharing about the 25th.

...Our very first 7th Cavalry Casualty upon our arrival in Vietnam was a young Lieutenant attached to us from Hawaii's 25th Infantry Division, which was still in Hawaii at the time.

...He was a victim of a Helicopter Collision in the air outside the village of AN KHE just before our 1st Offensive Operation.

...His best friend, our Battalion Chaplain, was crushed upon hearing the news.

The horses were beautiful but what really caught my eye were the BlackKnights that flew over the parade. That was just a marvelous site.
