George W. Bush is 2002's Most Admired Man (Gallup)
Gallup Poll ^

PRINCETON, NJ -- President George W. Bush leads Gallup's annual survey of the "most admired man" for the second year in a row, but there is no consensus among Americans for the "most admired woman." The percentage of Americans who name Bush the most admired man has dropped since last year, but he still gets one of the highest vote totals for any man on this measure in Gallup's polling history. New York Senator Hillary Clinton, talk show host Oprah Winfrey, and First Lady Laura Bush are at the top of the list of the most admired women this year but are not substantially ahead of other women on the list.

And not by chance.

I can see how GWB would be so popular. He just radiates decency, honesty and manliness. It's been a while since us men had somebody to look up to for a change. As for women, I just don't get it. Oprah Winfrey? What is so admirable about hosting a babbling talk show? I would have thought that Condi Rice or even that British writer J.K. Rowling would have scored better. Rowling, after all, is a true self-made woman who made it on her own merit and not the coattails of her husband, whether you care for her books or not. (And of course, Condi Rice made it on her own as well.)

I happen to think this is good news. We are struggling on the economic front, a just but dangerous war is being fought, another is likely on the brink, and the man who is out front as our Chief Executive is still admired more than anyone else...I believe he's showing great leadership.

You think this is good news...? I'll let that speak for itself.

This 'most admired man' has consistently stonewalled any (even sham) inquiry into the events of 9/11 - until he had a majority of Congress...then he tries to appoint a known war-criminal with economic ties to nearly every possible suspected player. This man appointed as Atty. Gen. a rabid fundamentalist who would burn (is burning) the Constitution in order to further a twisted religious agenda. This man signed into 'law' the most blatant piece of anti-Constitutional legislation this nation has ever seen. This man stands guilty of the same thing which pissed-off so many about the Klintons - insider trading. I would get finger cramps were I to even attempt to list all the reasons why this man has no business anywhere near public office, let alone being Prez & C.in C. of the world's only super-power.

The economy is 'struggling' because the nation, as a corporate entity, is bankrupt. The only things keeping that stark reality from the huddled masses are the machinations of the manipulated media, gov't. practice of the same kind of un-accountable accounting that enable Enron, and the masses own Pollyannic ignorance and naivete.

Any one of the 'Wars' that you can name are neither true wars, nor in any way just or Constitutionally authorized. Do you really accept the notion of 'security' from the same folks that can't even keep drugs out of prisons?

If you believe any of what you have seen so far is great leadership, then you have monumentally shallow expectations.

JFK and LBJ amired?! I still cannot believe the naivete of whoever voted for these two losers! Both immoral idiots had more to do with the near ruination of the Republic than any of their predecessors. Then followed two more RATS, Carter and Klintoon, whose inadequacies, major mistakes and stupidity equal those of JFK and LBJ.

Good Lord! Did you just drop in from the DU????? What you said is "off the wall" if you ask me. How do get Bush responsible for the economy? The Islamic terrorists have openly stated that they are aiming at destroying the United States economy and made a rather effective first step on 9/11. Besides, the economy was going into recession BEFORE Clinton left office. You must be a Clinton butt-boy!

Now that you've expressed such low opinions of the current administration, that doesn't leave you much latitude to say that the ilk of bin Laden or Hitler are worse.

So much for your credibility.

I too have always wondered at Oprahs popularity. I think it is nothing more than name (& face) recognition. She is on TV 5 days a week & we are constantly being told how rich she is & she earned it herself. At least she is not famous only for her beauty.

Did you read the article on JFK on Opinion Journal? I don't think the author would be very impressed with the number 2 choice.

'Brain-dead' describes those who blithely dismiss any hint of impropriety or malfeasance by Duh!-bya simply because he is (ostensibly) part of the Republican party.

'Brain-dead' is the double-standard hypocrisy that keeps so many here cheering the 'R' for the same things for which they were ready to crucify the 'D'.

'Brain-dead' is being off-handedly derisively dismissive, instead of looking for the truth...IOW, what you did in the post above.

You don't have to call me 'Lord'...Your Highness will suffice. < grin >

How do you infer that I said Bush was responsible for the economy? Re-read my post, you'll find I said no such thing. AND, I have no greater love for Klinton than I do for the current criminal/hypocrite/authoritarian, anti-Constitutional tyrant wanna-be holding that office.

I would prefer an honest adversary over one who is either blatantly duplicitous or, worse, self-deluded. At least bin Laden will tell you up-front if he doesn't like you, or intends to try to kill you.

Bush has lived up to my expectations just fine. We might be a little further along if not for Dems stonewalling in the Senate. And of course Bush did wind up with a lot of Clnton made problems to deal with. I love the latest from the Dems. WE should bomb Korea and not bomb terrorist supporting Saddam. We lost many lives in NY and DC and are in the middle of a war but the Dems just don't seem to get it.

Okay, your Highness (grin) - I am not a butt girl of President Bush either. I have been disappointed at some of the things he has done ie Campaign Finance Reform (which is NoT Reform at all), However, I shudder to the bone to think where the United States might be today had Egore cheated his way to win. I dare say, you would likely be on a par with Canada since we have had two decades of the Gore types. Thank God for small miracles. George Bush Jr. is NOT his father and I believe he is basically a good man, a sincere man and a very deliberate man. I have a hard time seeing him as a person out to destroy his own Country. I too believe in some of what you have posted, for example, I believe that the Constitution is of paramount importance and should not be considered a "living" document at all. It was and is a brilliant, God inspired document and I am sure that the Founders expected that it would be lived and Governed in accordance with the same. The time may come when "We the People" may have to overthrow the Government. Don't count me out of the loop too quickly, nor naieve. Remember I am a big C Conservative in a Socialistic Country and you need to be grateful for GW Bush's win.
