UNIONTOWN, Pa. -- A 12-year-old boy was shot and killed by state troopers after he led them on a chase in a stolen car, authorities said.
Michael Ellerbe led troopers on a chase Tuesday afternoon, crashed the car and then tried to run away, state police said.
While chasing the boy, the troopers shot him, police said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Troopers Juan Curry and Samuel Nassan have been placed on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation. Police declined to discuss the incident further, citing the probe.
Uniontown is located about 40 miles south of Pittsburgh.

There has got to be more to this story than this. I find it highly unlikely that the cops would have shot ANYONE after a chase, unless they had reason. There is going to be a gun or something that looked like a gun...

LOL.
I find it highly likely that they got pumped chasing the perp and shot him. They realized they were screwed when they saw it was a 12 year old. Tough to make up a story around that.

Maybe your in the wrong profession, I wouldn't trade jobs to be a cop for nothing. Your dammed if you shoot and dead if you don't. I hardly doubt they knew it was a 12 yr. old boy, some 12 yr olds I wouldn't mess with.

Let's see, they executed a 12 year old car thief. I don't think that is part of the job description. I did not hear the police saying it was self-defense or any such thing. The police are more than capable of defending themselves and putting forth a reasonable explanation. Until then, logic and common sense tell the story.

Sadly, there are too many kids doing stuff that likely deserves a bullet. Not a nice topic for Christmas Eve, but the advent of this wave of child criminals doesn't in any way change the nature of the use of lethal force. If the shoot was not justified, give the cop(s) involved the correct punishment. If it was a justifiable shooting, then too bad for the kid.
To: paul544
I'm sure there was a good reason. The kid was probably geting away... Can't have that!

Someone running away? I don't think you are damned or dead if you don't shoot.
It is not an easy job - but this is not the way to do it.

The left will have one more child-firearm-death to clamor about.

I don't trust the AP to give the whole story. Maybe the kid made some sort of threatening move. I will reserve judgement.
To: jdontom
A perp running away from the police is almost always an innocent person. Innocent until proven guilty...
The cops should have to follow the same deadly force standards as ordinary citizens with concealed carry permits. Use deadly force only to protect a life. The cop should be treated just like any other citizen who shoots another citizen. I would go further and also charge the cops partner who was driving the getaway cop car.

I paraphrased the first sentence.
"A 12-year-old boy was shot and killed by state troopers"
To: paul544
I don't think anyone hate cops who do their job right. I have three members of my family who are police officers, and they resent the criminal cops as well.

paraphrased? I think you may have stretched the limits of the definition. Anyhow, it was well said above
If the shoot was not justified, give the cop(s) involved the correct punishment. If it was a justifiable shooting, then too bad for the kid.
