A "momzer"="Bastard", technically refers only to someone whose mother was married, but not to the father of the momzer.
A "schlemiel" might be translated by the English word "prick."
Be that as it may, I've read a lot of Jewish novelists, and when someone was called a momzer, it was meant in a very derogatory way.
