I'm surprised the press hasn't responded by mentioning all the PERSONAL charitable work that Americans donate day after day. Churches send down teams to Mexico every year to build schools, clinics, etc. Americans send money to World Vision, World Concern, etc. etc. and those groups help in Sudan, Ruwanda,Uganda, Turkey, and wherever there is a need. I think that Americans spend far more on charities than any other country, possibly more than all the other countries combined.

Sen Biden: "...he is regarded by some very uninformed, ignorant people in deep trouble, that he is being charitable."
In his own words, fellow Democrat Murray is very uniformed and ignorant.

For reference to fellow freepers - most of Washington and most of California are filled with good folks like the rest of the country, Unfortunately, the socialists in LA, San Francisco, and Seattle overwhelm the rest of the state when voting time comes.Very true. Eastern Washington and the rural parts of the west probably vote 60/40 in favor of conservatives. Seattle votes liberal by huge margins. McDermott for example regularly gets 80% of the vote. Tacoma/Olympia/Everett tilt slightly to the left, while Bellevue/Issaquah/Redmond tilt towards good government type Republicans.
When you add it all up the libs in Seattle end up running the show when it comes to statewide elected officials. Conservatives have done very well with initiatives though where the situation seems to be reversed.

Isn't there a single Rebublican senator with a spine??? What weenie comments Lugar made! Why didn't he say this: "Well, someone ought to point out to Sen. Murray that those day care centers Bin Laden founded are called terrorist training camps."
I can't believe what totally spineless wimps Republican politicians are. Dems certainly don't have any trouble going for the kill when they have the opportunity. Sheesh.

With that picture and others I have seen of her I would say you have to give her a pass on any stupid things she says. Is her IQ over 100. Her appearance would seem to indicate she has a mental deficiancy.

So why is Sen. Murray spreading this same propaganda here to high school students? I had the same take and after I called and talked to one of her office workers; I sent the following e- mail.
Senator Murray.
Why would any American addressing school children undercut our country as you did by looking for root causes of terrorism, and implying we are at fault.? Maybe you are not an American, but just a U.S. citizen.
The root cause ot terrorism against us is not poverty, or anything we did; It is people following the dictates of Islam, which instructs them to kill non - Muslims. That's the problem.
Osama bin Laden is a multimillionaire, he has risked his life and fortune to follow the dictates of Allah as written in the Koran. Your political correctness, and anti- Americanism are endangering this country. You are a disgrace. - Tom

Conservatives have done very well with initiatives though where the situation seems to be reversed.Interesting, isn't it? When people want something specific for themselves (not to be robbed blind every year when renewing their tabs, for example), even some people here can figure it out...for a minute. Then, in the next breath, it's "Where's that 'D'?"
[That sound you hear is my head pounding on my desk.]
GO PACKERS!!! 12-3!!!

It is well-known that criminals try to ingratiate themselves with the local population for protection or for a local "good reputation." Marc Rich did this in Switzerland, putting together a whole town's worth of infrastructure. It's just a tactic.
What her statement reminds me of is the old anti-Semites in Germany who still say, "But Hitler was so good for the economy!"

BIDEN: Well, knowing Patty, I know she didn't mean it the way that came out.Wow, that is some super-duper, industrial strength SPIN.
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
Well, OK, the woman is as thick as two short planks but only for not knowing about the extent of American aid. If she'd been right about our not building schools, etc., her comments would have been very much to the point and
supportive of an eventual American victory.
So the only thing we can criticise her for is ignorance, and that simply is not a disqualifier for the Senate.

She has an identical twin, too, who's a middle school teacher in Bellingham. Patty had made the rounds of the schools here a few years back, and I was thankful she didn't make it to my kids' schools.

Below is a letter to the editor I sent to the Spokane, Wa newspaper. Remains to be seen if they will print it. By the way, this should have been a front page story in all Wa. papers but they buried it in the second section.
"He's (Osama bin Laden) been out in these countries for decades, building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day care facilities, building health care facilities, and the people are extremely grateful. We haven't done that.?
So says senator Patty Murray (d).
Is the senator saying that the billions that we give to other countries directly or indirectly isn?t used to aid the people?
Osama has been doing this for decades? During the 90?s? Well, senator Murray, why haven?t our politicians been making sure the money ?politicians send? is used to the benefit of the people we send it to. Something seems a little odd here. One of the people (Murray) who spends our money is praising, in a sidewise fashion, Osama for doing what we thought our government was doing, but, according to Murray, hasn?t been happening at all. (whew)
Senator, I?ve seen news footage of the camps and hospitals Osama built. They look a little like terror training camps to me.I?ve seen and read about the ?good? Osama has unleashed on the world. If you are wishing our government would do the same, in our name, I think we should pass.
Senator Murray should answer some questions. Where are the billions going, if not to help the people? If our senators can?t control where the money goes then should we be giving it?
We all know this is nothing more than playing politics against a Republican administration.
Playing politics with the ?Osama situation? is not a good idea.

I'm gonna try to keep this thing alive as long as possible. By 2004, if we keep it up, she will be vulnerable. A censure vote would help.
As I have posted on other threads:
Things people can do:
- Write your U.S. Representative, asking him or her to speak on the floor of the House about this outrage
- Write to your local media/columnists, informing them about her comments and how it is making people feel outraged across the country
- Write to your Senators, demanding that she be censured!
People can use Project Vote Smart to find out who their elected representatives are, and how to contact them.
You just put in your ZIP+4 in the left-hand column and click "GO", and a clickable list of your elected representatives will appear, with full contact information within each link.
While we might have a hard time getting the media to do a Trent Lott on her sorry rear, we might have a better chance shaming our Senators into censuring her comments.
Also, a hand-written letter is most effective.
After that, a typed letter; after that, a fax, and least effective of all is email.

All I know is that I am grateful that we have the initiative process in this state so we can can limit most of the financial abuses by the state governement. Our state government would be more out of control than California without initives to keep them in check

As someone who was born and raised in Washington State I can say Patty Murray represents the state very well. At least the part of the state west of the Cascades. She is an idiot. I left the state when Dan Evans was presented as a Republican.

Lott was beat up by the media and pushed out of power because he praised a colleague who ran for president as a segregationist. Murray is being given a pass for praising a man who build and financed a terrorist network that has killed thousands of innocent Americans. Lott's actions were insensitive. Murray's actions were offensive. It's a blatant double standard, and we should not stand for it anymore.

Give her a pass for now. Next election she will be 10-20 points down and the Dems will replace her with some fossil (say Mitchell) 2 weeks before the vote.
