I am not saying there wasn't a political calculation involved.. Don't misunderstand. I don't think that for a second.

Regardless, it just struck me as the most understanding, compassionate comment of the whole fiasco, and it came from Tom Daschle.

For that reason it stuck with me.

I suppose it was the association of words such as 'understanding' and 'compassionate' with T. Daschle that threw me. The man at his core is the antithesis of such adjectives. Those of the 'liberal' persuasion are blinded to the simple truth that the ideology they espouse is the precursor of tyranny - the very thing they claim to hate.

Your term 'fiasco' is appropriate. Trent ran his mouth a bit in a moment of careless Southern enthusiasm and it was blown far out of proportion. Still, intrinsically, I think the change is a good thing - not the rationale for the change. Let's see if the Republicans can make an omelette out of this scrambled mess. Blessings.
