GOOD. For the good of the GOP, the president, his agenda and the country. Now all the stories will start about how noble he has been...but they had to drag him kicking and screaming to resign. I think the Democrats are going to long for the days of Trent Lott because the next majority leader will be tougher and impossible to personally demonize.

Well I only missed on the Lott-ery by 6 hours. I guessed 5PM.
To: ewing
Cameron just reported that Lott and Frist had a conversation and said it was in the best interest of the party to step aside. Ah, the power of Karl Rove!

MSNBC reporting Pete Dominici told a New Mexico paper that if Frist runs , Lott would not have the votes.
And Retired Senator Connie Mack a close Lott friend was called to give him the news.

I guess Robert Byrd will resign his committee chairmanship because he used the "N-Word."

Frist being described in media reports as a "moderate" and likely Lott replacement. He's getting almost Jeffordsesque support from the media elite. The GOP does NOT need a "moderate" to counter Daschle and company. We need someone with cajones.
To: Uncle George
You still may be right, he has to call a press conference for later today.

Frist is as conservative as Lott. He just is much nicer about presenting conservative views and isn't prone to foot in the mouth mistakes like the one that cost Lott the top job in the Senate.

It would be the fair thing to do. (like the Democrats would let it happen)

Frist is a solid conservative, and he'll be FAR more effective than Lott ever was.

No, it's because he's in the MINority!:^}

I've always seen Frist to be a solid conservative... he just has the ability to "wine-and-dine without getting drunk himself."

Thank God. Free at Last, Free at Last - thank God Almighty, we're free at last!
Now I hope the old queen has the good sense to shut the hell up and do something useful for a change. It's been years since he's done something useful.
And no more gay cowboy outfits, ok Trentie?
To: ewing
I bet you he went kicking and screaming. I wonder what they had to pull to get him to back off...
Nah nah, nah nah nah nah, HEY HEY HEY GOOOOOD BYEEEEEEEE
To: Texaggie79
Oh gee... the "reaction" is already out. It looks like this "resignation" is being run with Macy's Parade efficiency.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
"The GOP does NOT need a "moderate" to counter Daschle and company. We need someone with cajones" I agree...any suggestions?

I think Connie Mack had to talk Chester down..CNN's John Karl says Lott's statement indicates some frustration with the White House
