A deficit of that magnitude leaves the state facing "just too big a gap to close" without tax hikes, Davis told a Los Angeles radio station Wednesday.
As he makes his case for deep budget cuts and possible tax increases, Davis has hinted for weeks that the shortfall would far exceed the $21 billion estimated last month by legislative analysts.

I'd be laughing if I didn't live here.
Again, California is what you get when the Democrats control everything.

I guess immigration really does pay off.

At the root of this problem are the enormous STRUCTURAL COSTS stemming from ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, particularly in the areas of health care and education. This crisis would have occurred TEN YEARS AGO were it not for the wealth generated by the tech bubble of the nineties.

When entire programs have been eliminated, liberal laws repealed, illegal activities put before a judge and jury, THEN, MAYBE we can talk about passing a new state budget. This state needs a lot of blood letting before the Republicans can begin to talk to that criminal.

Lets not forget the massive stupidity of the California voters who approved 30 billion more in new "bond" measures. The sheer stupidity of your average voter never ceases to amaze me. The only thing keeping me in California is the weather and even latley that has sucked. California gets what it voted for. Maybe when the tax rates jump to 15% for the middle class, people will start waking up, but I don't plan on holding my breath waiting for that to happen.
Republicans have said they will block any budget that includes higher taxes but Davis said in the most forceful terms to date that he likely will call for increases and asked lawmakers to put aside "rigid ideology."
What a hoot .. This is what got us in this mess, Dear Guv..
Guv.. Ya ever hear of the survival instinct? A lot of folks are feeling a lot of it about now. Thanks to all you socialists and their supporters worldwide, ya bunch of incompetent, irreverent, corrupt pigs.

Socialism should be allowed to implode. It always does.

Another article mentions this is $1000 per person in the state...
I would send GWB2004 a check for $1000 before sending the State of CA anything.... they are going to milk us dry....
This was all predicted by John Campbell a couple weeks ago. They said the strategy was to make the budget deficit sound SO BAD, that a tax hike would seem inevitable.

The guv should put aside his "rigid ideology" first! Screw higher taxes, we've had enough of that. Let's charge fees on the ones causing the problems.
Let's see, how about a $1000 toll for all illegal aliens crossing the border, for each and every crossing. How about a surcharge on all money sent south beyond our borders by illegals, or outright confiscation. Of course, we need to charge for all those "free" services they're getting.
Put aside your "rigid ideology", Davis!
