Berlin (ddp) - Germany will also fulfil its alliance obligations in the event of a military conflict with Iraq. This also includes overflight and transit rights for Nato partners, the parliamentary state secretary in the Foreign Ministry, Kerstin Mueller (Greens) stated in the Bundestag in Berlin on Wednesday [18 December]. At the same time, she confirmed the government's position that Germany will not participate in a military action against Iraq.
In the controversy over the AWACS missions, Mueller made it clear that Bundeswehr soldiers will stay on board these special aircraft as long as they are not involved in hostilities. This also applies to operations designed to protect the territory of the Nato partner Turkey, she stressed.

The point is moot. U.S. military cargo aircraft supply the troops in the desert from Germany everyday.

Screw Germany. I don't know what the pulse is among the Dutch right about now, but the Germans I see on the net, I can't believe how people who think of themselves as so smart are that daft. They really don't get it.

On Usenet.

There was once a time when a country didn't allow overflights, but the US didn't listen. We know that today as the Berlin Airlift.

Hell, you don't have to go very far. Drop into this
thread to see the action.
Knighthawk, if you haven't seen this thread, you've missed quite a lot of fun. Arguing with these Germans is like shooting fish in a barrel.

parliamentary state secretary in the Foreign Ministry, Kerstin Mueller (Greens) Here in Germany, she is known as Kerstin "Quadaffi" Mueller.
Several years ago, she went to Lybia and slept in "The Colonel's" palace while trashing the US and the West. She is a leftist pig---and many Germans are aghast she is in power.

I am aghast that she is in power!
I am also aghast that other ex-terrorists like Fischer or Trittin are in power too!
The YES to support military acts against Iraq is nonetheless a good decission and prevents germany against complete isolation in the world.
