Drug czar on Canadian marijuana policy
Google News | December 12, 2002

Posted on 12/17/2002 4:17:38 PM PST by Sparta

Canada today moved one step closer to decriminalizing marijuana and that could be a hassle for U.S. Customs. President Bush's drug czar John Walter met with the media today at the Peace Bridge to talk about security issues in the event that pot becomes legal.

John Walter says any form of legalizing or downplaying the use of marijuana in Canada could become a nightmare for the United States. He says pot is crossing the US-Canadian border at an alarming rate now and drug dealers in Canada already focus their attention on business here. If Canada decriminalizes marijuana you could see the amount that's being smuggled across the border sky-rocket. Searches through cars, trucks and buses would all be affected.

A Canadian Committee in Ottawa today recommended that Canada decriminalize the use of marijuana for personal use.

I know it's in a bureaucrat's job description to be somewhat out of touch with reality, but Walter is so out of touch, he's certifiable.

Here's news for you, John baby. The Canadians get to decide whatever they want. You'll just have to live with it. You can't use your Gestapo tactics on them.

The Feds have never let a little thing like the Fourth Amendment stop them, so why would they let a little thing like international borders stop them from enforcing the WOD?

Possession of pot will still be a criminal offense, punishable by a fine. The difference now will be no criminal record. Tempest in a teapot, but ongoing proof that nobody trusts the Cretien Liberals to do anything right.

John Walter says any form of legalizing or downplaying the use of marijuana in Canada could become a nightmare for the United States.

Words mean nothing anymore. Lott says "problems" which obviously means "I hate negroes", and now we have this idiotic "drug emperor" saying Canada's drug policy will be a "nightmare" for the United States.

You know what a f**king nightmare is? Tens of thousands of undocumented illegals from terrorist countries wandering around America. Why doesn't the autocrat do something about that instead of worrying about what responsible adults do in their free time?

Why doesn't the autocrat do something about that instead of worrying about what responsible adults do in their free time? YOu want Walter to deal with illegal aliens? Or for you the whole government is just one person?

Why don't you stop restraining yourself on the use of expletives and tell us how you really feel?

"If Canada decriminalizes marijuana you could see the amount that's being smuggled across the border sky-rocket."

But in the U.S., if we let each state decide on drug legalization, and one state legalizes and an adjacent state doesn't, this kind of thing wouldn't happen. Trust me.

What just is all this about? Hot air?

Nine states have approved the legalization of medicinal marijuana and 12 states have passed laws that decriminalize the responsible possession and consumption of pot — turning what was previously an arrestable offense into a ticketable misdemeanor.

States passing medicinal exceptions include California and Arizona in 1996, Alaska,Washington and Oregon in 1998, Maine in 1999, Colorado and Nevada in 2000, and Hawaii in the last legislative year.

The 12 decriminalized states are California, Arizona, Alaska, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Maine, Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado and Mississippi, with bills in the works in Vermont and New Hampshire.

I liked it better when they were after "Dino". GWB and the boys almost had him on the ropes. This B.S. is a red herring that deflects the heat away from the "Le pitit gar de Shawinigan".

Unlike today, of course, when it can take months to score some weed. Right John?

I am for legalization of all drugs--in every other country but our own.

Comes under the heading "confusion to our enemies!"
