No text yet, just a radio report at the end of Rush's show.
Must be worried about the Russert report this morning that he is 'Far' from the 26 votes needed for a Senate Caucus victory.

If Lott is replaced by Frist, it's not going to be pretty for the folks who try that line of questioning.
Sorry, but I have little sympathy for Lott. He opened his trap and caused this whole firestorm. Had his brain been engaged before his mouth went into gear, we wouldn't be dealing with this mess at all.
I'm not going to bail Trent Lott out of a situation caused by Lott's own stupidity.

I was referring to us conservatives. Standing tall rather than turning tail. Believe me, I know prejudice and this kefuffle about what Lott said is manufactured by the media. And that includes our so called friends on FNC.
To: aristeides
ABC reporter in Mississippi repeats the report, saying Lott told him, "I don't want to be presumptuous, but I think I have the votes to win."Thanks aristeides.
"I think I have the votes.." is far different than "He has Votes to Remain Leader". Who created this thread?
To: texasbluebell
"I wonder if there's any connection between this and the milder tone Ari Fleischer took towards Lott today.
I don't know. I heard the Pres met today with Hastert, though Lott was not included in that meeting."
At this point, it's all over but the vote or LIMPA-LOTT steppig aside. The POTUS won't pile on...in public....now. However, Bush surely sees a large chunk of voters leaving him in '04 if this isn't dealt with.

Standing tall is a too way street in such matters. Lott has been sold out to the enemy to keep his job and has become a liability to the GOP agenda.

"After Sheps remarks today, maybe Jesse will never appear on Fox again, if we are lucky."
You may be right, but Justme Jackin has more gall than all FReepers combined (which is a lot of gall).

Spare me the Yankee self righteousness please.....there are a quite a few of us here and some of YOU guys talk like we're all grinning buffoons.
I go out of my way to almost always point out that the upper west side of Manhattan is not indicative of all yankees.
Talk about prejudice son....you outta look in the mirror.
To: txrangerette
I don't think Nickles was ever serious about getting the job, but, rather, took one for the team....ahem, ahem, hem, uh, Trent...hint, hint.

I agree, I have been calling for Lotts head for years, he has no backbone, and we need someone who can stand up to the dems.
In my book, republican in name only, and governs with no moral or political compass......just like the dems....
To: aristeides
A lot of the people on this board suffer from an irrational hostility towards Lott.
To: Wphile
Nearly all the overt Southern Segregationists Democrats are now dead...and they don't vote except in New Orleans.
To: VRWC_minion
and an irrational hostility or hatred to Southerners in general....not that it's a new thing.

I could see ol' Trent being persuaded to quit since the Dems efforts at weaking him, with Lott's own able assistance, have clearly gone too far. The only way the Dems can now make hay is to try to force him out completely and get another Senate seat under their control.Yep. Now, tell me how Jesse Jackson and Lanny Davis could possibly do another 180 and start calling for Lott to resign from the Senate altogether after defending him today. Talk about make my head spin!
LOL! Oh, what a conundrum for them.
I bet Dominos pizza will be making a lot of deliveries to DNC headquarters in the next few days.

"It truely is a no win situation for conservatives at this time. But if we can persuade Lott to vacate his position, we will be in a very good position to hammer the liberals for their hypocrisy in allowing Jackson, Sharpton, Byrd, Hollings etc to use racial slurs without so much as a by your leave from their leadership."
I will be a hammer on the Communist Black Caucus' head when the Vacant Lott is gone. He said things that I couldn't defend, has been a pi**poor Leader to say the least and wasn't worth expending political capital over (obviously now, doh!) and needs to not be Leader but stay in the Senate. After he steps down, he's paid the price (more than the RATS now say he has too! hahaha!), gotten out of the way (off the poster for the GOP and conservatives) and needs to get his flippin act together.
To: ApesForEvolution
Ape....Nickles has been Lott's main challenger for years ...and you know that.
To: aristeides
"A lot of the people on this board suffer from an irrational hostility towards Lott."
I watched BET with Lott and the 'reaction' afterwards on CSPAN.com last night after reading the transcript 3 times. I saw the reason why I was right about Lott all along and he proved it again. His comments were indefensible and he himself is indefensible.

Thanks, Howlin.

The very thought that Mississippi governor thinks that Espy would be a replacement for Lott is stomach turning. Yep. 39 indictments on the guy. Typical Clintonism, aye?

to your post #187. I am one of those you speak of. Although i consider it rational that i am hostile towards him. he has squandered a zillion issues by having no spine when dealing with the democrats. i will never forgive him.
I say: "you (Lott) are the weakest link!" Good BYE!!!
