The request was made by Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz who is on a visit to the US.

The Congress at work.
Lucky they didn't decide to shovel out $40 billion of our money.

Only part of the package in those figures. Total package looks to be around $14.5 billion for next year.

$14 billions, amount to $2000/Israeli citizen! That is more than our government gave us?

Dont say anything here that might be construed as being Anti-Israel, if you do, the roof will come down around your ears.
Seriously...We have to borrow the money to give Israel. Somehow that does not seem like too good a business practice. Is Uncle Sam a simp or a sap, or both????

It is funny how this particular subject is a big taboo. I strongly support Israel, and any time I make a comment that is not 100% following the "part-line", all hell brakes lose. There are people on this board who are too militantly pro-Israel, which to a certain extent can takes a person's rational away as well as his ability to reason.

A delegation of senior Israeli officials will leave for Washington soon to discuss the request with U.S. counterparts. Israel has asked for $4 billion in a special defense grant as well for American agreement to confer loan guarantees of between $8 billion and $10 billion. This special assistance would be added to the United States' annual aid package to Israel, which is comprised of $2.16 billion in defense assistance and $480 million for economic-civilian spheres.
Bush favors special aid to Israel (Haaretz)
If it'll be 4 extra billion in aid and 6 in loans, it seems like the total would be around $12.5 billion. Right? That is, until (or if) the loans are repayed.

They do not have that type of money. They also do not have the use of force aiding them in collecting the money.
NOTE: I am not anti-Israel. I am just highly upset that the GWB admin will not do anything to cut goverment waste/fraud/spending.

Thank you for letting us who don't have life time subscriptions to Nazi Today know about this.
Can you also tell the rest of us how we also can order a few spare $ billion to be put into our begging bowls?

I feel that same. What are they going to do with billions more of our dollars? How many billions have we already given? How many billions next year? I thought Israel already had world class weapons already?
Do we not have people in our own country that are needy, like our own elderly, or the ill? Do we not have our own problems right here where these billions could really help?

They do not have that type of money. Well, I hope you'll never be in need of
that kind of money.
NOTE: I am not anti-Israel. I am just highly upset that the GWB admin will not do anything to cut goverment waste/fraud/spending. I respect your views.

Philosophy,
$14 billions, amount to $2000/Israeli citizen! That is more than our government gave us?
It's been explained on multiple threads that $10B are loan guarantees, not loans from the U.S. government.
And, regarding your other comment, no one will suspect you in being anti-Semitic. Incidentally, I see no problem if you were anti-Israel, if that were all there was.
It's beein my observation that the problem usually arises when some people mask their bigotry under the guize of "merely discussing" the foreign policy. They are very visible, and most posters (although not all unformtunaetly) know the difference.
