Well, that's because all the countries around there want a pipeline for oil and gas.

And the Taliban had the same offer but werre too stupid to take it up despite the pleadings of the saudis and the pakistanis to accept the pipeline. And the US was prepared to ignore sharia in afghanistan if the pipeline had gone through.

That's not new. Yea, Karzai and Khalilzad are both ex-unocal guys. Guess Unocal had a head start on other companies.

And it wasn't only Unocal, there was also an Argentinian company bidding against them with the Taliban.

The parties stepped down where? In Germany last year? Or this year..either way, same reason, US 'suggested' they do so. That's why Rabbani isn't Prez but Karzai is.
