[history]
The number of attacks by pirates reported around the world has more than tripled during the past 10 years, which doesn't surprise one Massachusetts scientist who had firsthand experience with thieves of the sea.

I have a brother who served in the Navy who was amazed at how brazen these characters are. They had the gall to come up to the destroyer he was on and start shooting with AK-47's and RPGs. Well, you can imagine what the Navy guys did to them - converted into fish food right fast! (This was before the enlightened Clinton era, of course.)

Send the Japanese Navy to deal with these guys. The Nips have legal/psychological problems with fighting The Terror War, but maybe they can help secure the shipping lanes.

What ever happened to the cry "Repel all boarders!"
A few shots from a .50 cal will solve most problems and any pirates captured should be hanged from the yard arm (or equivalent) or just dropped over the side with some added weights tied to them.
