Another sign of Lott's growing political problems were private discussions among some of his colleagues to find an alternative position for Lott, other than his current leadership role. Such a position, such as a committee chairmanship, might help keep him from resigning his seat in the event he is dislodged as leader, the paper claims. Impacting.

Looks like some Senators have been reading my posts during the past four days. There is only one committee chairmanship for which Lott has enough seniority to make a credible claim to chair it and that is the Commerce Committee where he will be incoming Vice-Chairman. You only need to demote one man to give him that chairmanship--John McCain. Time to play musical chairs and promote Assistant Republican Leader Nickles to Senate Majority Leader, demote Lott to Commerce Commitee Chairman and demote RINO McCain to Commerce Committee Vice-Chairman. That is the only credible scenario for giving Lott a Committee Chairmanship. Otherwise, he will be demoted to subcommittee chairman and he's not going to be too happy about that.
