Gephardt was tied to them (spoke in front of them/wrote something for their newsletter), if I recall correctly. As I recall, this group stayed under the radar screen for a while before making themselves known.

I've heard this, too. Gephardt orginally ran as an anti-busing, anti-abortion canidate from South St. Louis.
This may not be a popular statement but the CofCC gets a lot of information on people, events, and issues you don't hear in the left-wing media.
