The governor-elect has picked Lori Faeth as her environmental policy advisor. Faeth currently serves as the Arizona lobbyist for the Nature Conservancy — one of the top environmental and conservation advocacy groups.

Steve Owens will be the new director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. Owens is an environmental lawyer who served as an aide to Al Gore when he represented Tennessee in the U.S. Senate.

Democratic State Sen. Herb Guenther will lead the state Department of Water Resources. Guenther was re-elected in November, which creates a legislative vacancy that must be filled by a Democrat.

1.2 million acres to protect 18 "endangered" pygmy owls??

Since those owls were put on the endangered list in 1997, I call for another COMPLETE study to PROVE the little buggers are actually "endangered". New additions to the endangered species list, combined with HUGE land grabs makes me think of spotted owls, lynx hair and stuffed grizzleys.

"The owls are abundant in Mexico, but not so in the northern tip of their habitat in Pima County, which runs along the U.S.-Mexico border"

So the owls are "endangered" HOW, exactly? YEP...it's a rerun of the spotted owl fiasco.

Bad news for people living there.

Two of the three are what I expected from the Governor elect. I was surprised at her selection of Herb Guenther, he is much more conservative than most Democrats, and many Republicans, he is a good choice for Head of the Department of Water Resources, he is very knowledgeable in state water law. He has helped us on several property rights issues, and has been better than the other Democrats on Gun Rights issues.
