My personal impression of this is as follows:
Lott will step down gracefully and Frist will be elected ML. Know why?
If Nichols is elected, Chafee quits and if McConnell is elected McCain quits. Frist has already stated he intends to leave at the end of his term. That leaves 2 years for Lott to rehab his image and show he can lead. IMHO that would be the best outcome of all.
It'll take the issue away from the dems, give Lott a chance to fix this mess, keep the RINO's in check and allow us to get on with business.

Nickles is also the first Senator to go against Lott publically and will pay the price for that.
Makes me wonder if the Leadership met and told Lott he either fixes it by Monday or First will take over.
Bush bombed three sites in Iraq and Sadam complained a lott about it, didn't help Lott though (sorry for the pun).

Well at least that is a way for Lott to save face and possibly stay in the Senate. It really all depends upon how it's handled within the Senate and what the Senators choose to do. Based upon what I'm reading here from many of the so called conservative Republlicans, they want to hand Lott his head on a platter. If that mentality continues then imo opinion Lott has not choice but to resign and get away from the party that holds him in such contempt. Any person with any amount of self respect would leave, I believe. It appears Lott is despised by many on this forum.
